There are several reasons

1) It prevents spam programs (not real users) from posting 5 new threads offering us "get your diploma" messages.

2) It calms down the users that are newbies in forums and get to carried away with posting 6 new threads away. It's a bit like when Master Miyagi tells Karate Kid not to go for the bad guys too quickly. :D

3) If the newbies of point 2 are really  interested on staying as regular posters -- we hope so, they'll have to read the threads that others write (important) and they'll learn to read the forums before posting, which is something regular members do often, but some newbies don't.

I guess that the main reason in newkit is number one, the antiviagra users measure.

He is not. He is green. Beyond probationary member. :D -- when that distinction was set, iiiiii was a lurker already.
