I've turned into something of an iOS app addict so I thought I'd share the wealth. Angry Birds can go *** itself, these are games for MEN, whatever the hell that means. Most of the 'the best' list below costs money so it helps to have recommendations from a trusted source like me

For what it's worth I have a built-in hatred for all games that require in-game micro-payments, so most if not all of these can be played without that.

The Best
Army of Darkness Defence - currently free, get it now!
Death Rally - Currently free, get it now!
Predators £0.59 - On special offer now! Hack and slash your way to victory. (lite version)
The Secret of Monkey Island £1.79 - As good as you remember it (lite version)
Sentinel 3: Homeworld £1.79 - impressive tower defence game
Galaxy on Fire 2 £5.99 - space sim that puts a lot of PC games to shame. Pricey currently, wait for it to drop or try the lite version
Solomon's Keep £Free - A simple Diablo style game for the handheld generation
Dungeon Hunter 2 £3.99 - hit monsters with a sword, loot stuff. (lite version)
Sacred Odyssey: Rise of Aiden £3.99 - Expensive so play the demo first, that's all I've done so far but it looks very impressive.
Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery £1.79 - Enchanting, highly arty original adventure/puzzle game. Also available for iPad.
Plants vs Zombies £1.79 - same as it is on the PC. Easily worth the entry price.
Hunters £2.99 - XCom for your mobile, it's free for the first couple of levels so you can try before you buy.
Pocket Legends £Free - WoW for your mobile
Speedball 2 Evolution £2.99 - Superb conversion of a classic, my most played game. (lite version)
First Touch Soccer £0.59 - the best footy game I've seen, great controls
Sky combat - good old vertical scrolling shoot 'em up. (lite version)
Mini Squadron - 2D planes shooting each other. Simples.

Loads of others you might want to check out here, a variety of paid and free, but I can't be bothered to find links for all of them because I'm lazy

Infinity Blade £3.49 - Gorgeous looking (Unreal engine IIRC) monster basher. Duck, dodge, strike etc at the right moment to defeat your enemies. It's like a beat 'em up using a dance ejay mechanic. Almost made it into The Best list, but decided not to as the style might not be to everyone's liking, I'm a little unconvinced myself.
For young kids - Tozzle, Sounds Effects pro, Talking Tom Cat (and all variations)
BBC News
Sky Sports
Google Translate
Sky+ - Sky box connected to the phone? Good, this can set your Sky box to record stuff remotely. It's also faaaaar easier to search for a specific program here than on Sky itself.
Stick Golf
Bump - share contact details easily
MetOffice
Shazam - Goddamn witchcraft I tells ya! Identifies any song it hears.
Vevo - loads of music videos for free
TuneIn Radio - radio on your iphone/pod/pad.
Photosynth - take panoramic shots with your iOS device easily.
Catapult Madness - fling the king baby!
Backyard Pilot - Fly planes, don't crash.
Air Challenge - air traffic control game
Squares - simple but addictive for a short time. Don't touch the red blocks!
Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit - Driving game I really enjoyed, but only get it when it's on offer.
Smack Gugl - frantic whack-a-mole gameplay, good 5 minute fune very so often
Space Station Frontier - I've seen this game style somewhere else online, bugging me where. it's a resource management combat tower defence type game
World War - takes a bit to get into, but a bit like Planetarion. Build up your empire and resources then go beat other players up.
iMobsters - as per world war but using a gangsters theme. A little more simplistic than World War.
Stick Cricket - Hit runs, win games. Complex it ain't, easy it also ain't.
City of Secrets - £1.19, maybe wait for it to be on special, but an amazingly well put together point and click style game.
Minigore - shoot monsters by the thousands, great 2 play co-op especially.
Star Wars Academy - First person online deathmatch in a Star Wars universe.

If you don't want to pay full price for this stuff you can always add them to your wish list and then check back periodically to see if they have gone free/discounted as a lot do to drum up reviews and interest.
