The Good Yank wrote:I may have to share a story in this thread soon.  My wife and I always take the first week of school off to be around and make sure the kids are adjusting to being back at school.  Of course this also means a few nights of doing some drinking when the kids have gone to bed.  Well, at midnight she says, "Is there anything you want to do tomorrow night."  I replied, "Yeah I've got a tee time at 10 and then Pat (My brother-In-Law) and I are going to AC (Atlantic City, New jersey) to play in a poker tournament."

She laughed and said "How do you come up with this stuff so quickly to make me laugh?"

"What do you mean?  That's what I was planning to do."  Not having a clue as to why her face went from amusement to vicious in 1.5 seconds.

"Well, I was thinking we could go out to a nice dinner and go out afterwards for our anniversary."  Door Slams.

I think I'd better change my plans for tomorrow.  I'm just hoping she doesn't remember the conversation.

  Deserves a thread of its own this...  :no

Ethan, tell your "friend" to think of it in terms of football.  Losing Torres seemed absolutely dire but then Suarez arrived and now its Fernando who?  The best part is that Torres is absolutely floundering post "break up" and no longer looks remotely worthy of us.  Look hard and there's some relationship advice in there somewhere. :D

Come back ethanr, it's all in good taste/humour~

:D

To be honest I was just enjoying reading what you all had to say  :D

I'm only 20, she's 18 and she just left for school.  I know that sounds bad, but I knew things were different before she left.  We were both somewhat hoping that her leaving (she went 900 miles away for school) would bring us closer, but apparently that didn't work out  :p

I'm actually very close with her family.  They've treated me like a son since day 1, and they have been calling and texting me saying I didn't do anything wrong, sometimes it just works that way (not that that's true).  Her mom was absolutely devastated when she found out, and to be honest I haven't told anybody yet (You lot don't count, for all I know you're a bunch of 80 year olds sitting at your computer all day @ss naked trying to get your first boner in 20 years).

Am actually thinking about heading to Liverpool in December.  Maybe checking out some surrounding areas, hoping to catch one of Pool's games.

Oh and by the way.. You guys suck at giving advice.  Believe it or not, not everybody likes to go out and drink and party.  I don't even drink and I'm not trying to make her mad or jealous.  This thing ended on as pretty much as good of terms as it gets, but after 3 years everything just feels strange.

honestly mate, like I said above, I was there last year. Me and mine went to different unis and we worked fine but she just didn't want to come home and settle again, her heart ended up in the city which she studied in. I work in the same place as her mam so I see her and still talk and go for dinner with her at work, that's cool, thouh I'm a little reserved in telling her what I'm getting up to but thats perfectly understandable. I'm out tonight and her sister will be there, that's cool as well, afterall, the ex wants to bugger off and like in a different city altogether so its harmless me maintaning a relationship with her family.

Wait until one of the two of you meet someone else, then it moves on. Mine found someone else and I just cut the ties essentially, we had no mutual friends so that part was easy and I only see her family at work or if I bump into them in the street or something, I don't go round their place to see them anymore but thats fine because doing so would affect any future relationships.

Her getting with someone else helped me move on, maybe yours will be the same. I was angry at mine though so it was easy to just resent her and fook someone else  :D

In terms of advice in moving on, I got with someone else, she had a bf so it was a secret fook around which is definitely what I needed. Eminem's Recovery album was a great help as well (as was music in general). Never hurts to have friends in different cities to visit as well. I had a group of friends who knew we finished but wouldn't mention it nor would I give them too many facts, the less they knew the better and easier it was for me to forget about it. Obviously everyone I know is clued up on what happened now. Just keep those who matter close and focus on yourself, thats all there is to it really. Don't chase her around or keep in check, in the long run you'll get hurt again

Did that help mate?  :D

I was in a spot much like yours Ethan when I was your age and yeah, it sucks for a little bit.  But time moves on, it really does heal the feeling of loss.  FWIW, I bumped into the girl about eight years later while out with some friends.  We were married a year and a half later.

Update on my status, cancelled my plans and will do the traditional Anniversary thing tonight.
