Watched MONGOL last night , don't know if it counts as an asian film ,as it was mostly funded and made by Russians. It was a brilliant film ,an epic . It was about the rise of Ghengis Khan and his uniting of the Mongol clans . The acting was brilliant and the scenary was breathtaking . Pretty violant stuff ,but it was violant times . Top film ,and a top story.

Good shout Igor, and apparently it's only part one. :)

Two hours of sweeping Eurasian melodrama might not be everyone’s cup of warm goat’s milk. Still, surrender to its exotic oddity and guttural throat-singing and you’ll be entertained by a sweeping saga that’s like a Mongolian Braveheart. Masterfully blending action and emotion against some of the most arresting terrain on earth, Mongol is an exciting and awe-inspiring tale of survival and triumph, and a love story for the ages.

Very tempted to put in an order myself Igor, but even my HK supplier is asking for £11 for the movie. I'm gonna have to wait a couple of months for the price to drop.

Igor if you're into these Chinese historical epics keep your eye's peeled for these two (if you haven't already seen them :D )

Warlords

and

Three Kingdoms - Resurrection of the Dragon

both well worth having.

ps Check out DDDHouse.com for asian dvd's , very reliable and back catalogue movies are often very cheap (£3-£5)

Rather new to the whole Asian film scene but we've managed to see a few Asian horror/supernatural thriller movies and are starting to get intrigued by what else is out there.  Recommendations are very welcome in this genre.

Anyway, caught the Korean film "A Tale of Two Sisters" (Janghwa, Hongryeon) last night and enjoyed it for the most part.  There were certainly some disturbing scenes that were familiar from watching The Grudge and The Ring.  The story was a bit hard to follow though--particularly at the end, where it's hard to differentiate between what's in the character's head and what's being shown to the audience as reality.  Still, worth a look if you're into this genre.
