I agree we need to be linked with class but there is no way City would sell Aguero/Kompany to anyone, let alone a rival.  The only one they would sell, all be it reluctantly would be Toure only because he wants to go.  They will only sell him abroad, and his wage demands are astronomical.

I still think some fans are being unrealistic with the demand for "marquee signings" whether we're in the Champions League or not. I see a lot of people saying "we just finished 2nd, we should be pushing on for the title" when the reality is that 2nd was never our expectation before, it just kinda happened. We weren't equipped at all for a title challenge. We needed at least 3 more players who could come into the squad without the level dropping off. Instead we were relying on Flanagan, Cissokho, Moses and Aspas. One of them surprised us and held his own, the other 3 didn't. They looked every bit the cheap stopgaps that they were.

United made a habit of hoovering up the best players from Premier League clubs just outside the top 4 or 5 under Ferguson. He added to that a splattering of big name or high potential foreign players. I think that is what Rodgers is trying to do in a way. The likes of Bony, Lallana, Lambert and Lovren would be to ensure we stay at least in the top 4 in the Premier League. The likes of Can, Origi and Markovic are the ones who will take over in a couple of years time and hopefully at least one will hit that Gerrard/Suárez/Torres level.  Priority 1 has to be finishing in the top 4 again. The best way to do that is signing players who you know will fit our system. Signing an Ozil for example, while giving the fans a lift in the big name front, is no use if he takes 15-20 games to get used to the Premier League, the pace, etc.

Sign of the times, Toure could force a move here if he wanted, and his wages aren't that much more than Suarez's were, get rid of Johnson and that more than covers it.

The point is we only "go for someone if they're available". Why not go and f*cking get some class players in from other teams and pay the money for the talent we require. We've just lost the third best player (arguabley the best) in the world and we need class to replace him. We need some absolutely superb players to make up for this, a top defender, keeper and a top forward would ease it some what.

Tevez, Begovic and Barzagli? Fact is, we can't go and sign Ashley Willams and Bony and hope things will work out. We need pure class. Simple as that.

Not saying it will happen but if we was to pull off Muller from Bayern I would be over the moon. After them signing Lewandowski from Dortmund Muller has to be questioning his place in the side.

I don't believe Mueller has to be worried about his place in the side... he is versatile and is a world cup star right now... he should be one of the first names on Bayern's team sheet...

The disadvantage of BR being Northern Irish is that there is no additional incentive for some of the world class players from different countries to join... a dutch manager like van Gaal could draw upon dutch players, a German manager German players, a Spanish manager Spanish players, a French manager french players etc...

What i meant by it was Lewandowski will be their main man next year. Muller i believe will be one of the best strikers to grace this planet. His best years are ahead of him as he is only 24. Pay whatever bayern wants to get him

Vehemently disagree with your perspective that despite the team coming within a whisker of winning the title we should all now just shrug our shoulders and consider it as a "one off" because it was something we didn't expect anyway.

Certainly the team performed beyond our expectations BUT having shown us what they were really capable of it's not unfair for many of us to begin to dream and consider that with some additions in key positions we could perhaps in the coming season have finally brought the title back to Anfield. The rest of the prem we're sh'tting themselves at the prospect of facing a strengthened Liverpool for the 2014/2015 season.

I firmly believe that if Luis was still on board with the right additions we'd have been champions at the end of the coming season, and no doubt prior to Luis' departure most people in football wouldn't have considered it an unreasonable expectation.

£75m for a player that is going to miss the first 9 games of the season and will be almost 28 when he is allowed to kick a ball again is excellent business sense. We also don't know the long term affects of the recent surgery to his knee. Suarez, and it really saddens me to admit it, given that I have defended him very strongly for his past indiscretions, has become a complete and utter nuisance. His latest act of complete nonsense was was perhaps one of the most selfish acts of crass stupidity I have ever seen on a football pitch. Anybody that seriously believes that Luis didn't engineer this move to Barcelona and dramatically reduce his potential selling price needs to take a look at the lads history when it comes to getting what he wants when it comes to transfers. I'm not going to say good riddance regardless of how annoyed I feel. Luis has got what he wants and I just hope he is satisfied with his behaviour. In fairness he did at least give us the opportunity to get a reasonable price by signing a new contract but that is surely only part of the story.

Quite a few papers seem to be under the impression that we are going to do a 'Spurs' with the Suarez money and buy a number of players, according to them, expensive high profile targets like Reuss aren't really on our radar.
Given the players we've been linked with recently (Bony, Bertrand, Davies, Rodriguez, Vorm etc) they may be right.

I totally agree with this. Why can we not be a bit more aggressive in our transfer strategies? We just sold our greatest attacking asset when he (supposedly) wasn't for sale, why can't we take a page out of Barcelona's books and go and kick someone else's back doors in? We've got a roll of cash that would choke a donkey, why not go after some proper quality and bid serious amounts that would activate some other release clauses?
Is it just down to the fact that the players in question wouldn't want to come to LFC? Is it as simple as that? Or is it just not our policy?
It is pretty frustrating the names we are being linked with at the minute.

I'm really failing to see how the club can recover from selling Suarez.

One of the main reasons for any top players to join us has gone, and its a massive worry. A lot of players will look at us as a squad and think (quite rightly) that if you take him out of this team, we're not much better than a mid table side and last season looks like it could well be a flash in the pan.

He made the difference last season without any question and I think anyone who disputes the importance of his role is quite simply from out of space.

The point is though, he's gone, so how do we recover?

We've so far signed Lambert and Lallana for a combined fee of £29,000,000 which quite frankly is ridiculous money. Also £10,000,000 spent on Emre Can is a huge amount, and all for players that aren't really good enough to get into the first team... When you condsider players like Fabregas and Sanchez (the type of players we should be in for) are moving for around the £30,000,000 mark that kind of says all you need to know about our transfer policy.

I really do worry we're going to do with the £75,000,000 exactly what Spurs done with £85,000,000 they got for Bale. Spunk it up the wall on yet more ***** and as yakka put in another thread (overrated bench fodder). Since Rodgers has come in the only players that have been positive signings are Coutinho and Sturridge, Sahko and Allen have proved to be average but we've over payed and the rest have been abysmal flops.

Anyone who thinks this is a good thing or good business I fear may well be in for a very very nasty wake up call.
