Another competition and familiar opposition!!!

ROUTE TO SEMI FINAL

MAN CITY

Third round--Swindon Town 1–4 Manchester City
Fourth round-Manchester City 4–1 Fulham
Fifth round---Peterborough United 0–2 Manchester City
Quarter-finals-Southampton 1–4 Manchester City

LIVERPOOL

Third round---Liverpool 4–1 Shrewsbury Town
Fourth round--Liverpool 3–1 Cardiff City
Fifth round-----Liverpool 2–1 Norwich City
Quarter-finals--Nottingham Forest 0–1

Playing on a neutral ground so hopefully we will be more composed and prevent City going on a onslaught against us. City got kicked and bruised against Atletico, potentially KDB and Walker may be out. Dias may feature as he was on the bench vs Atletico. We will have a strong side to choose from as we rested quite a few midweek.

I feel more confident with this one compared to our game against them at the Etihad. Chances will occur but crucial we keep it tight at the back. It was evident our mid was getting over run at the Etihad so I'm hoping for a little tweak there.
Fabinho looked nervy but has to start, I'm a little unsure on Thiago and Henderson. Should we change it get the tempo up in the middle and start Keita? Keita has been playing good recently so is worth a shout. If Ox was getting mins and playing well I would've started him for this one, his the type of player we need against City who can drive forward.
Up top I would start Diaz, he is a menace and would cause all sorts of problems for them, who would he come in place for? Jota or Mane.....

Nice OP mate.
We need to find a way of stopping them getting in behind us so easily. Wether the midfield lads need to track runners or our back 4 need to be more effective in terms of stepping up and playing the offside trap I dont know but something needs to change.

Most of our regulars only played limited minutes against Benfica at Anfield with van Dijk, Robertson, and Alexander-Arnold, not playing at all. Whilst City were away in Madrid where they had a tough night with a full strength 11. Walker and De Bruyne both came off injured so even if they do play you'd think they won't be 100%. So on paper this is a great chance to beat City and you'd expect us to really be able to turn the screw in the 2nd half and extra time if it gets to that.

I said in the PL game thread I'd start with Keita and Firmino but they both played 90mins against Benfica while the other midfielders and attackers had limited minutes. So I'm guessing Naby and Bobby will be on the bench. The only questions are if Matip plays his 3rd game in 7 days or Konate keeps his place. And if we go for Jota or Diaz.

This will be interesting. Forget the City bullsh1t about De Bruyne and Walker. They’ll both play. City scored one stuffy deflected goal and Jesus got lucky !! Our defence needs to be totally focused. City will try and exploit the high line. With VVD policing we should be ok. The goals we scored against City were quality and that needs to be repeated. Not sure about Nabby. He was largely responsible for two of the goals against Benfica. I know he has looked better recently but for me he doesn’t set the place on fire.

Brilliant start from the lads. We forced the 2nd goal from our pressing. Next goal is vital.

Alisson is a train wreck waiting to happen...very unusual and super nervy display today. Good thing City is still trying to find their first gear

I cannot believe Fernandinho and Silva have not been booked, that is two bad fouls each. If they are booked that changes the way they play. Yet he gives Fabinho a card

Cancelo looks to have suffered a mortal blow all over his face/neck/body from Sadio's hand....he looked to be in real pain judging from his 150 rolls around the field

Playing too much football with Atleti can rub off into your game

Ref letting city players get away with a lot, Fernandinho and Silva should both have been booked.
