Ok, here we go again, another thursday night, another Swiss team, again we are expected to win it comfortably (remember FC Basel ??)

The injuries are mounting up now.. Benteke, Firmino, Henderson, Lovren, Flanagan etc...

I am in the "lets take this tournament seriously" camp, but at the same time i think certain squad players would really benefit from this match

I would like to see Rossiter, Bogdan, Ibe, Gomez all get starts

Something like this...

                          Bogdan

Clyne        Gomez        Sakho        Moreno

               Ibe    Rossiter   Milner

                      Lallana

                  Origi      Ings

I am concerned about Sturridge over doing things, so perhaps an appearence from the bench

Feel free to pick apart my team selection and post your own, cheers  :;):

I really don't like Gomez as a CB he isn't nowhere near big and strong enough to be a commanding CB like the likes of Skrtle or Kompany and isn't a good enough of a footballer to play it out at this level like the likes of Agger or Cahill that's why I think he is suited to full back

I also wouldn't trust Ibe as part of a midfield 3 as I think his natural intention is to drift wide

Bogdan

Gomez
Toure
Sakho
Moreno

Can
Rossitier
Allen

Lallana
Origi
Ings

We'll probably lineup in a 3-5-2 again for this one which is a shame. Same lineup below in a 4-4-2 would be a better option imo. Id go with the subs given the opposition, us being at home, and the upcoming fixtures:

Bogdan

Gomez
Toure
Sakho

Ibe
Can
Allen
Moreno

Lallana

Ings
Origi

Our lack of options at LB make the decision to freeze out J.Enrique all the more baffling. Would have been a good opportunity for him to fight for a place in the side. Not quite sure what happened between him and Rodgers.

We really don't need this game right now... which is why we should have beaten Bordeaux...... what a wasted opportunity that was.

He's not taking the opportunity to win a prestigious trophy and through it qualify for the Champions League seriously is he ? So with that in mind , should we ?  :glare:

I say we field a strong team. Have a convincing win before the derby, plus the game we had against Villa should raise morale as well. Think gaining confidence is more important than resting players at the moment.

Plus there's another one of those annoying international breaks after the Derby game on Sunday so the players will get the chance to recharge their batteries (England play Estonia and Lithuania i.e another pair of glorified friendlies).

Ideally he should take this competition seriously. Like you said a trophy and route to champs league.
Will get more of an idea on 4th spot come next year Jan/Feb.
If were in a poor position, then atleast we can fall back on Europa route to Champs league.
BR should take Europe a whisker bit more serious.

It will be interesting to see how the defence lines up with Clyne, Toure, Can and Gomez included in the XI.
With Clyne in there I can't see Can playing RB and i can't see him playing as a LB either so that means he's either a CB in a 4 or we are going with a 3.
