He offers us the strength protecting our defence and also the ability to push us forward. Pairing him with Hendo or Milner would give us a better balance than hendo and milner partnership

Yeah I agree, I think playing Can and Firmino from the start would go a long way to improving us.

Seems we're moving towards a point where we might regret having made Hendo captain?

The real mistake was promising Milner a starting role and in central midfield at that no less. The undropable pair of Milner and Henderson will probably be our biggest problem this season.

Can came on for Lallana, which moved Coutinho out to the left, with Henderson and Milner staying in the middle....that didn't work much, so Firmino came on for Ibe and Milner moved out to the right wing to let him play in the middle. That opened things up a lot, which gave Cout space to take his goal.

Thanks. So the usual problem? We lack width?

I'm no fan of the Hendo/Milner CM axis but having watched the game again it's a bit unfair to lump all the blame on them, yes in terms of creativity they were poor but to be fair there were 3 AM's on that pitch that contributed very little for 85 minutes as well.
Not one of the Coutinho, Ibe, Lallana triumvirate had a decent game, in fact not one of them had a half decent game so as poor as Hendo and Milner were they weren't the only ones who struggled.
Sunday was one of those occassions where 5 or 6 players had an off day, not just 2, and no matter how Hendo/Milner performed if our 3 AM's would have turned up it probably would have been a completely different game.
