We needed to finish that one off, and we had the chance to do so, but I'll happily take the 3 points.  Would have expected a draw at the beginning of this one, and probably would have taken it, so overall I'm pretty damn happy.

End off. Good Win. Looked good attacking ...Defence oh well. Suarez Rusty and self centered. Walk on!

Almost had a stroke there with Benteke's offside. But we won and deserved to. Great game by Gerrard, Coutinho and Henderson for the goal.

Just one question. Why was Sturridge on the bench?

Iffy performance all round but we did just about enough in the end. Coutinho was very impressive again and very unlucky not to add to his goal tally, I also feel he was unlucky not to get MOTM but credit to Gerrard, he had a very average game by his standards but the penalty got us the points and the goal line clearance just about sealed them.

yup, it needs to be sorted out in the summer. Johnson needs to be replaced IMO by a more solid right-back. Carra will hopefully be replaced by someone who's good in the air.

Unfortunately he is just as bad for taking a dive.  For a big lad like that it's a complete joke.  I'd be embarrassed to do that.

We really need a strong powerful centre back in the summer. I've not been totally convinced with the likes of Agger and Skrtel when they come up against these big, powerful forwards like Benteke, Lukaku, Lambert, Holt etc. Yes they are handfuls' but I've seen CB's at other clubs pretty much nullify the threat posed by these kind of strikers. An area that needs to be addressed in the summer. Anyone, a good win following the slip up at Soton and roll on the next game andlets really finish the season off with a bang

Johnson has the ability to be one of the best right backs in the world but not sure the will/motivation is there to better himself. Seems quite content with having great games, with some average and poor games here and there. Lacks the consistency to be the very best

have to agree about the defence, whenever anyone gets anywhere near our goal it`s heart in mouth time and in all honesty villa should have scored more than one given the chances they had. i dont know if relying on the oppositions poor finishing can be classed as a bona fide defensive tactic but thats what we seem to be doing.
we are as bad in the air now as i`ve ever seen us, any corner or free kick looks like it`s got goal written all over it to me.
the only consilation is that by the looks of it there`s going to be major changes in terms of personel at the back and as far as i`m concerned that cant happen soon enough.
in terms of the midfield i thought lucas was well off the pace today and players went past him and brushed him aside far too easily, when you are in there as the defensive screen that just cant happen.
if we sort out the defence we`ll have a very good side.

As good as Suarez, Coutinho, Gerrard, Henderson and Enrique were some of the other players looked average to poor. We would have lost the Spurs game last year and I think we would have lost this one as well. There are a lot of very encouraging signs that we can build on.

It wasnt the greatest performance and Villa provided us with a lot of problems - Benteke is a quality player.

We wasted a number of decent chance - both Suarez and Coutinho should have been on the scoresheet. Great finish by Hendo and great ball from Coutinho.

Overall it was a 6/10 performance but got the result

much better 2nd half after a dodgy first. defence still gives me kittens but on another day we could have scored 5 or 6.

henderson excellent again and gerrard immense as the game went on. coutinho showed flashes of real quality and suarez did everything but score.

onwards and upwards.
