Shelvey adam and spearing in the middle with maxi and kuyt on either flank and carrol upfront on his own. Pack the midfield up get the ball to Andy. 0-1

Dont think Mancini will play that strong tbh especially with kompany toures missing. They will focus on the premierleague

Why not?

He started against Oldham. I see no reason whatsoever why he wouldn't unless he is not fully recovered from injury, which in fact he showed against Oldham he was fit.

I'm sure that Kenny will want to get a decent result against City early on this week as the return leg in only days before the United FA Cup tie - no way will Gerrard miss that one, he is far more likely to be rested in the City second leg.

Because before he returned and was close to fitness Kenny said we won't give him a string of games like last time. I think he is more likely to have a bench role v citeh and come on if needed

Well I don't consider 2 starts in a row "a string of games".

I can see Gerrard starting against City. Bench against Bolton. Start against City and possibly United.

What about stoke?

Agree SCS. We brought Gerrard on too late against city last time, and he couldn't contribute like we needed him to.  Start him from the beginning and he'll be that much more deadly throughout.  Bellamy should start this game as well.

Carling Cup can be ours if we want it.  We win the first leg and the second becomes that much easier.

Just looked up Bellamy's appearances... Every game he's started in this season in any competition, he's gotten at least 1 goal or 1 assist, except for the game against Fulham.  He is yet to get a goal or assist in any game he's come off the bench.

Sounds like a starter to me.

Kinda true but City are never easy to beat.  We couldn't score against them at Anfield after Balotelli got sent off and we were dominating.  And we couldnt score on their ground even with Barry sent off.  They almost forced a replay with the Mancs yesterday despite been a player down for 80 minutes.

They're the best team in the country and we'll have to play brilliant to get a positive result.  Cant afford any silly errors like last time we played.

would love to see that line up with agger playing as a sweeper.

Be interesting to see what sort of team City play.

Anyway as long as we are still in the tie come the second leg I'd fancy our chances of turning them over at Anfield under the lights with a packed crowd.

We need to score tomorrow though. It's vital. In many ways a 2-1 defeat wouldn't be the end of the world. 0-0 is dangerous.

Kompany ban still in place -FA dismiss Manchester City's appeal against the card handed out to Vincent Kompany in the FA Cup third round defeat by Manchester United on Sunday (from BBC).  Was never a sending off but still good news for us!
