Benfica vs Liverpool

Europe League, Quarter Final - First Leg

Thursday 1st April 20:05 Kick off time

Televised on : Channel 5
Possible streams found at: http://iraqgoals.net/

Looks like ive popped my match thread cherry... this is my first.

Benfica are a very very strong side at the moment and are playing some brilliant football. They have players such as Saviola, Cardozo and Aimar all on great form.

Their main threat will be from Angel Di Maria who is one of the most highly rated youngsters in the world and was described by Maradona as a future star. Will be very interesting to see him against Johnson.

Im gonna predict a very close 1-1

Come on you Mighty Reds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  :buttrock

Putting aside the fact that it the Europa League, I think this is a cracking game for us. Big team, and a very difficult team for us this season. I think the players will rise up at the challenge and do enough to get the result we need before bringing them back to Anfield to finish them off.

Hopefully a few lessons will have been learned and rather than going all out for a draw, we go all out to win the game. I think we may well see Lucas back partnering Masch, but I hope not. With Torres on fire and Gerrard looking a little more like his old self I think we should stick to Gerrard in midfield with maybe Kuyt or Benny playing behind Torres.

I hope Aquaman gets a game but can't really see it myself.

                              Reina
Johnson          Carra         Agger        Insua

Kuyt             Gerrard      Masch        Babel

                    Benny
                        Torres

Should be a great game, cant wait. If we get a result over there then we have a great chance. I have great respect for this club, if they come to Anfield level pegging then they too have a great chance.

Need to put it to bed over there so will hazard a 2-0 win for the reds, Nando and Stevie.

Prediction: 0-0 score.

Management will choose to go defensive and try to win it at Anfield next week.

                       Reina
Johnson       Carra    Agger   Insua

Kuyt           Lucas    Masch   Babel

                 Gerrad
                          Torres

I rather we go with the offensive. We have learn enough this season that being cautious would lose us the game. Although we did come back against Lille but I dont think it would be the right approach. We know we can play attacking football and we should go for it after a display against Sunderland.

Especially if playing defensive means playing Lucas (sometimes I'm so furious with him I would rather us playing with 10 men). Dont need someone slowing the football down or conceding dangerous free kicks or ball to the opponent. Just my opinion.

Liverpool need any victory, including the friendlies.

That should be motivating enough, but I personally have a very bitter taste of the last time Liverpool faced them in the CL

I remember it as a very frustrating draw, in which Liverpool dominated but uneffectively.

So it's time to revenge.

As long as Lucas doesn't play I'll be happy.

Hopefully Benitez will take note of the performance Liverpool had against Sunderland. Granted Sunderland we shite, but overall, the team simply LOOKED better and the set was more "comfortable".

Agree with most, as long as Lucas is drop kicked out the door, I'll be fine. Although, he certainly isn't solely responsible for the team's woes.

Actually looking forward to this game. Something I haven't felt in a long time.

like a few here i can see Rafa reverting back to two holding in midfield, as much as i would like to think he would go for it with it being a two legged tie i just cant see it.

come on Rafa lad take the leash off and let the boys play with a bit of freedom, if it doesnt work out then we still have the chance to turn it around back at Anfield.

Come on Redmen, Come on Rafa you know you want too. :D

Whatever problems  everyone has over defensive/lucas/benitez selections, its usually been a succesful  policy to keep it tight in the first/away leg,  then bring 'em back to anfield for a pasting!

Didnt happen when we played them in the champions league last time.
They beat us 1-0 at their ground and then won at anfield as well.

We need to go for it imo.
They are a side that are good at going forwards and if we try and defend i think it would be a mistake.
Lets go there and try and attack them at a high tempo, get a goal or two and make the game at anfield easier.
