Bolton - rest our best - Premiership more important

Our efforts should be clearly focused on the premiership following our poor start to the season. That's why the team that plays against Bolton should not be the one that plays against Newcastle on Saturday. We need to rest Stevie, Harry and Sammi and possibly Biscan. Injuries already rule out Owen, Finnan, Henchoz.
Riise needs games to get his form back and so does Heskey. So Houdini should pick a team that is capable without being our best. The game on Saturday is far more important and we can't risk any more injuries.
It's nice to win mickey mouse cups now and then but we need to get back to basics.

agree.

Suggested line up against Bolton :

                     Dudek
Welsh --- Traore --- Biscan --- Riise
Diouf ---- Diao --- Smicer --- Le Tallec
             Pongolle --- Heskey

Substitution :
Kirkland
Kewell (play up front if Ponggolle or Heskey ineffective)
Hyypia (replace Welsh or Traore if ineffective)
Hamann (replace Diao if ineffective)
Murphy (replace Smicer or Le Tallec if ineffective)

I'm not sure which way we should go. Here are my conflicting thoughts

1) We should play a full strength Xi. We have little hope of winning the Premiership and should try and win something this season, the Carling Cup being probably the easiest to win. We are only a point off fourth place in the league and should comfortably beat off most of the teams around us. With Owen out there wouldn't be too many players up for a rest anyway

2) We should give the youngsters and reserves a run out. It is an opportunity to give the fringe players a chance to stake a first XI claim. It would at least show who cares enough to put in the effort and who is not really interested in playing for Liverpool. One game isn't likely to be a real test though and the benefits would be limited

Not sure which to go for, maybe a balance of the two would be ideal - rest half the 1st XI and give some fringe players a chance

Would agree with Cleman but start with hamann coz he needs to build up his match fitness, but maybe bring him off with 20 to go, thinking about the game on sat.
