And so goes our chance of a trophy?

We were toothless yesterday, our play up to Fulhams 18 yard line was fantastic..........everything else in the box was rubbish.

So are the same people still having a go at Rafa for trying to protect him from injury and subbing him early against Birmingham now? ???

He wasn't giving him much "protection" in the Benfica game though, was he?

We'll see if he's around Thursday week.  ???

Hopefully he will be back for the next game, although if his knee is bad i fear for our chances of winning the Europa Cup.

If Rafa wanted to protect Torres ,really protect him - then he should have signed a decent counterpart striker to Torres ,our manager placed all the pressure physical and mental on a sole single striker and this is the price you pay for such incompetence.

Torres is a target to any physical defence not only as he is a top class player but also because he is our single biggest threat to the team ,if Rafa would have reduced the pressure by bringing decent strikers he wouldn't have been knocked so much.

Same goes to Stevie which suffered continues injuries ,this is the price you pay for not bringing talented players to support your stars.

I said two years ago when Rafa first started playing him as a lone striker in every game, that my concern was that players who take on that role rarely last long before the injury problems start to become more frequent.

When you have two huge CB'S kicking lumps out of you, and you are having to chase every lost cause on your own, it takes a toll. Torres is an incredible striker, but even he is human!

no what he said it's rafa's fault for not having a plan b an injured torres. And if he seriously consider's N'Gog a backup to torres he's gotta be joking.

and what s@int said is right, when you have CB's on your heels every game you're fit in the epl you will get injured no matter who you are.

Ok its a given that if you play as a lone striker this burden will bring the inevitable injuries Torres has sustained ,but also Torres has been no stranger to injuries right through his career such as any player who plays with pace and striding gait will continue to suffer from ,surely of all the accusations people can place at the managers door this is the most flimsy Saint ,I will confess some of his formations and game plans may be subject to scrutiny but surely not the players who currently lie on the treatment table

Football is all about confidence ,and Ngog when first brought in played with a lot of promise ,I have no Idea what has shattered his belief lately but its beginning to show as it did with Keane when he scuffed shots and missed sitters with alarming regularity ,I personally don't think the lad is as bad as some make out ,or at least he wasn't when first introduced ,I even remember a few on here praising the Lad for his contributions   ???

Far from it Beergoggles.

Benitez' insistance on a single striker will mean that Torres will ALWAYS be getting the shit kicked out of him regardless. Even if Liverpool had a decent backup.

Playing a single striker alone, against the defence...it's a joke.

One of the things that drives me mad about Benitez.

Yeah, so much of a joke that we utilised it in our best Premier League season ever.

I can't argue that it didn't work mate, the only thing I question is will it affect or shorten Torres career ?
