If Riera is ready i'd play Kuyt upfront with Benny down the right... if not then Voronin or Babel to partner Torres upfront.. Gerrard back in the middle alongside Mascherano for me too..

Benny      Gerrard        Mascherano      Riera

                 Kuyt          Torres

see how that works out...

Hope Torres looks better out there his first touch in the tottenham game was absolutely awful... nothing to do with service and all that.. just had a terrible game and was always running at defenders rather than spaces when he got the ball... surely having Babel and Kuyt down the flanks didnt help... not that Gerrard was that great or anything but Gerrard to me was the one who suffered more from the lack of service...
Anyways.. against Stoke.. regardless of the players Rafa choses to play, we should be controlling the possession simply because Stoke arent going to be wanting any of that... Play Benny down the right (going deeper) with Johnson coming from the back and with Gerrard and Mascherano in the middle we'll have a better attacking balance about us id think...

anyways... will be interesting tos ee if Benitez makes any changes to our setup/players (besides Babel that is)...

The irony is, if we beat Stoke on Wednesday, we'll have picked up more points than we did in the two corresponding games last season.

Ha - good point.

Spurs away is a tough game to start the season.

This game is a real test of how we cope with "park the bus" teams.

Lets hope we cope better with that than the last game, which was a real test of how we coped with "teams who get off the bus, leave it in the carpark and play football".

Would be our first Premiership win over the potters, our first goal, our first avoidance of embarrassment on top of first win of the season. A must win, to not win is unthinkable and could leave us 5-6 points behind the mancs and Chelsea not to mention other teams.

Seriously we need to be winning 15+ games at home, may sound a lot but if we're to win 27+ in the season then surely the majority need to be at fortress Anfield - newly renamed in optimism as it's currently "welcome to Anfield, point's yours if you want it"

wouldnt really say so...

Tottenham, Villa, WestHam, Wigan, Wolves, Fulham, Chelsea, ManUtd, Arsenal, ManCity... thats more than 1/2 the clubs in the league who take up a somewhat attacking mentality regardless of the opposition..

Would say that Stoke, Hull, Burnley, Blackburn, Bolton, and maybe Portsmouth would probably look to frustrate us when they come up against us... not too sure about the other sides...

Another point - is this a MUST WIN game?

I think it is to be honest.
