Early days but I like the way Coates is trying to force the role of "Sweeper Keeper" on Pepe.  Pepe doesn't seem to keen though lol.

tbh I can't seem to think of anything good ever with Coates' performances. He just seems very unsure, makes mistakes, made many again today - for the goal and for the goal that should've been scored.

Typical pre season fare really and these fitness sessions rarely give you much
idea on how we will shape up when it gets underway.

We still need a couple up top that are direct and can go by people as apart
from Sterling and Suarez its all side and back stuff which isnt hurting anyone
and half our trouble.

Hopefuly we can fix that and get a couple in this week who can get teams on
the turn and do some damage.

Overall I thought Coates had a very solid game apart from his 78th minute lapse. Reina's decision making [whether to come off his line or not] was dubious. Sterling's goal was lovely but apart from that he didn't feature enough throughout the 90min. I do think he will be used as a sub quite a lot this season but it's way too early IMO for him to be a consistent first team player.

Our free-kick that was eventually scored by Lucas was very well worked, I enjoyed that. Shelvey was okay in the middle of the park disappointing on the right, he's also quite rash in the tackle Charlie Adams-esq. Speaking of whom needs to be shipped out ASAP, his delivery is awful, his mobility is sluggish and his decision making is poor.

I reckon this will be our starting eleven against West Brom:

             ----------------------------- Pepe

                Johnson--------Skertel-----------Agger---------Enrique

---------------------------------Allen---------Lucas
---------------------------------------Gerrard

---------------Downing--------------Borini-------------Suarez

Dunno Bam.  Don't see Allen getting his first right off the bat.  Think it'll be Henderson in that spot or even Shelvey.

Enrique started his first game 2 days after transferring, but I can't see that happening with Allen.  Hasn't played with us yet, so I'd be a bit shocked if he started.  I figure he'll get a sub with 30 minutes left or so, and if he does well enough he may start against city.
