Deadline Day - What Surprises Will It Bring?

Well, I think it's fair to say that Roy's managed to pull off a few shocks in the transfer market so far this summer.  First, it was the signing of Joe Cole--a player of excellent quality who seemed destined for one of the London clubs.  Just this week we've snapped up Raul Mereles before the Masch transfer funds were even in hand.  And if the Liverpool Echo is to be believed, Roy has the full amount of that transfer money to spend and he's made no secret that he's still looking for a striker.  So what will the frantic business and sheer lunacy of deadline day bring Liverpool Football Club?  Hang on your hats folks, it shall most likely be interesting.

To follow up, it's a big moment for Roy.  I think he's bought rather well to this point but I can understand some people's concerns about where he's spent the money to date, given our glaring need for another striker.  Well, it's been made clear that Roy has been given a few quid on the back of the Masch transfer and he's made no secret of the fact that he's looking to sign a striker.  Put bluntly, failure on that front is not an option.  He simply must sign up a forward capable of deputizing for or partnering with Torres (or both) today or we've got major problems.  Two dimensions to the drama:

1) Will he get his man in time?
2) If so, will 'his man' be what we need up top?

Come on Roy, pull another rabbit out of the hat. :nod

After the transfers he's done so far I think I trust him to bring in another solid buy, but I worry he hasn't had enough time to work something out with a club.  All we need is someone that can slot it for Torres if things go bad and he reinjures himself somehow.  We must buy a quality player.  Also.. I'd much rather prefer a replacement/sub for Torres when he needs rest instead of some kind of attempt at playing 4-4-2 as our main formation, Roy has to know that isn't the way forward I hope.

I would love to see Llorente come in. He is the type that wouldn't need to support Torres but even play as his own striker if needed. He is a great player who I think is better than what he has even done at Bilbao. If it weren't for every Basque player's innate requirement almost to play for Bilbao then I'm sure he would have sooner been on a more succesful team and, in turn, would have been a bigger star.

Where the fuck has this Llorente rumors come from ? Do people actually believe Bilbao will sell one of their jewels to us knowing that they only sign Basque players ? Even if they allow him to leave, it won't be less than 20-25M

There will usually be an anti-climax on deadline day.
I predict as such.
Roy has 'punched above his weight' during this transfer window.
I wouldn't expect much more form him.
Now the dust will settle down, we can concentrate on the football.

He has publicly accepted Toivonen is not the kind he's looking for. I wouldn't rule out Cole signing though.
