On football manger 2006 i signed him on loan from southampton reserves, while i was brentford manager.

He was my top scorer and as a joke i told my brother "one day he will play for liverpool".

4 years on and who would have thought this could come true

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez snaps up Kenwyne Jones on loan to solve striker crisis

Liverpool will try to solve their striker crisis by signing Kenwyne Jones on loan on Monday.

The Sunderland forward is due at Anfield for a medical as manager Rafa Benitez desperately attempts to strengthen his squad for the visit of top-four contenders Tottenham on Wednesday.

Benitez sees the 25-year-old Trinidad & Tobago star as ideal cover for his injured superstar Fernando Torres. The Spain striker had knee surgery in Barcelona this weekend but is not expected to be fit for at least six weeks.

A swap deal with Liverpool for unhappy winger Ryan Babel had been mooted but instead Jones will move to Anfield on loan until the end of the season.

Sunderland have already turned down a £9million bid from Birmingham for the 6ft 1in Jones, who has scored six Barclays Premier League goals this season. Birmingham boss Alex McLeish remains keen to sign Jones and Babel.

Former Southampton target man Jones earns about £50,000 a week — wages City are able to match following Carson Yeung’s takeover — but the player is not interested in switching to St Andrew’s.

Excellent deal for us if it goes through. If he hasn't got the mentality for a top club (as I suspect) we can just return him at the end of the season, while if he knocks goals in for fun and plays well we can sign him perminantly with confidence.

If we sign jones...........it could save benitez's job. Hope it goes through. We need more presence (cutting edge) in our attack.

Decent enough player that has gone off the boil a bit for some reason.
But given are chronic lack of options getting a loan deal for him would be a great move by the manager.
he is very good in the air but also has decent pace as well.
Like S@int i would have my reservations about whether he would be mentally up to it but its well worth the gamble given our current situation.

Win win for me, fingers crossed this one is true.

If its true that we signed him on a loan i think that this might turn up to be a good transfer period . Getting rid of Voronin and Dossena for 7 milion, and getting Maxi and Johnes for 1.5 mil.

Wouldn't necessarily believe that...though I would be surprised if Bruce was looking at Babel. Not his type of player, I wouldn't have thought..

i would also say he only says he would not want a swap deal?? so it could be that we are going to get him but we have to look else where to off load babel ( he must have seen him play   )

It seems Sunderland have moved quick to deny the claims that Jones is joining Liverpool on loan and it may be this story is just tabloid rumours. I dont see Kenwyne Jones as a top striker and he certainly does not have an impressive goalscoring history - he could have made a good partner for Ngog while Torres is out but Jones definitely needs to play with someone else upfront alongside him. Will be interesting to see if anything does actually happen between Liverpool and Sunderland for him now.

would be a welcome addition but sunderland won't loan him out. they'd sell him though if a decent offer came in.
