Those who have been forced to endure the slow erosion of a once-beautiful relationship with a woman/man will know just how hard it is to finally call it a day. Yes, they have started reading during intercourse, they’re “working late” an awful lot, and admittedly they appear to be dry puking every time you attempt a simple hand-hold in public.

But remember those great times? That night in Istanbul in 2005 when the intercourse started awkwardly, but ended with you shouting thunderously with joy as it reached an unexpectedly amazing crescendo?

Man, what a holiday that was!
All of which leads rather clumsily to Rafa Benitez, who last night surely smashed another nail into his Liverpool coffin with a limp home performance against Reading - a team who had never won at Anfield.

For us Liverpool supporters, it made for depressing viewing, with both Gerrard and Torres hobbling off, supplying a very appropriate live-action metaphor for their manager’s season.

With the boardroom in a shambles, and Rafa hardly inspiring his team to great things, surely it’s now time for some fresh blood to stop the rot?

Is it time to finally end this relationship? To shoot the metaphorical sick dog in the face?

Time for Kenny to pick up the broken bits & hold the fort for another next season?
