Thing is we really need someone that will be ready to play. If it takes him half a season to bed in that won’t help us while the African boys are away, unless he was a young talent that will be a replacement for one of the front three.

Ousmane Dembele has reportedly demanded a 'crazy' salary package worth up to €80million (£66.9m), with the Frenchman angered by recent developments at Barcelona.

The 24-year-old's contract expires at the end of the season and just last week he was reportedly prepared to take a pay-cut to stay on board, having been convinced to remain in Catalonia by new boss Xavi.

However, according to reports in Spain, talks have frozen as a result of a change of heart by Dembele, caused by recent moves made by Barcelona.

Torres' arrival also onset doubts about the reasons behind Barcelona's desperation for Dembele to extend his deal. Having previously been convinced by Xavi that he is part of his plans, fears have grown that the club want him to re-sign just so that they can sell him for a big fee in the summer.

As was reported last week, Dembele is also unhappy with Barcelona pleading poverty and asking him to take a pay-cut, despite being linked with a mega-money move for Erling Haaland.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta recently said that the club are 'back' and can compete with their rivals for big-name signings, and those sentiments have added to Dembele's confusion about his negotiations with the club.

As a result, he has tabled fresh demands if the club wishes to keep him on board. Sport suggests that Dembele wants a €30m (£25.1m) signing bonus, €15m (£12.5m) to be given to his representatives in fees plus €35m (£29.3m) in wages over the duration of his new contract.

Barcelona reportedly view those demands as 'crazy' and the club may be left to rue not signing Dembele to fresh terms on a reduced wage before landing Torres, who cannot be registered yet due to LaLiga salary cap rules.

We are not buying anyone to play 1, or maybe 2, league games, and a couple of domestic cup games.

I don't think we'll buy anyone in January unless a long term target that might have been earmarked for the summer suddenly becomes available. Don't think Dembele falls into that category despite his talent.

Might be a possibility that Origi goes at the end of the window if there is a buyer and we can get a replacement like Luis Diaz, Jarrod Bowen, Raphinha, or Jonathan David.

Laporta says Barca are back and can compete for the big signings   What about the 1.5 billion debt they have   :Oo: .

Not sure if we will sign someone or not this window but it would be absolute madness to sell the likes of Origi with no replacement coming in. The squad is threadbare as it is and covid isn't going anywhere so we need a full squad.

Can't see it myself.

On loan for the rest of the season to Villa makes sense. Don't reckon he'll fancy the relegation battle at Newcastle.

Sounds like Nat Phillips and Neco Williams were both keen to move on for first team football in the summer but nothing materialised. Sure they'll still be keen in Jan.

It says we are close and we have been linked for a while. It would be a good move if it comes off

Yes, I've read rumors about links with him and us for a while now. Looks like a good player, but 60m sounds a bit too much since he plays in the Portuguese league, but I guess that's the modern market for you.

James Pearce from The Athletic.

Meanwhile, Liverpool are not plotting a move to sign Porto attacker Luis Diaz this month. Reports had suggested that the club were closing in on a deal for the Colombia international whose release clause is understood to be around €80 million (£67 million).

However, senior Anfield sources insist he’s not on the agenda for January. Diaz is highly-rated having scored 14 goals for Porto so far this season. However, given that he would only be back-up in Jurgen Klopp’s squad, the price tag is viewed as prohibitive.

He’s valued at around half of the figure in his release clause.

Watching his goals he seems more a replacement for Mane than Salah as he seems happy on the left and he scores with both feet. If we are going to lose One of Mane or Salah at some point, he would be a good choice to replace them. I also read that his value is 40 million dollars, less than the release clause but it doesn’t mean the player can push for a move. Porto could take the 40 million.

No way are we signing anyone of relevance in this January transfer window..

It's the hope that's gonna kill us. Every transfer window we are linked with 60m-100m pound players but its just rumours. Don't expect no one in this window to sign for us.

We're probably gonna lose Origi and Phillips at Cut prices and that will be our buisness done.

Lewandowski wants a move to the Premier league. Hope he doesn't end up at City.

Coutinho re-uniting with Gerrard at Villa . Going on loan to Aston Villa who are paying less than half his wages and have option to buy .

Be interesting to see if he can still cut it in the Prem.
