Alonso has nothing left to offer Liverpool. Liverpool are on the edge of 'burst through' with a new team and Gerrard is the senior player holding them together, we don't want or need another older player to stymie the momentum. 26 is probably the upper end of the age group that the club will now consider, we have our time and anyone brought in now will have to be there as a better player on balance of skill, age and value. Alonso has dropped out of contention.

Not sure I agree that Alonso had nothing left to offer us Reg but I agree with the gist of your post. Alonso is 33 later this year, bringing him back to Anfield wouldn't signal progression for the squad
Bayern although reportedly offering a two year contract have basically been forced into an emergency signing of Alonso as they experience a midfield injury crisis with Thiago, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Javi Martinez all out.

Oh. Well yes, Alonso is too old and has no fit in our system without ousting Gerrard.
Alex Song on the other hand is a great fit, at a great price and at peak age.

Arsenal closing in on Falcao... if they do manage to sign him, that will be a blow for us considering we wanted to sign him...

Rumours going on about us gunning for Cech for £10M?
Don't think Dirty Maureen will want to do business with us tho but it's good that Brendan acknowledges that Mino needs replacing/seriously challenged

Won't come cheap tho...yup Falcao would be good but considering us already have Balotelli in our book, Falcao will be a dream.
The sour grape in me would say that Falcao is not PL tested so it would be a gamble, and while he's good, he is nowhere near "Suarez good"! Besides me think many of these prima donnas would prefers living in London so we've got to question their commitment, loyalty and life's priorities

Not going to happen, Mourinho doesn't do business with rivals.

It's nonsense, it was an article in The Mail, a reporter was asked which "fantasy" transfer he would like to see go through and his response was Petr Cech to us for 10 million, wont happen
However we were in for Alex Mccarthy of Reading but went in to late as the deal with QPR had already been done

Class...
Alonso : I rejected offers from English clubs to protect my #LFC legacy.
Owen : I joined United because #LFC didn't want me.

West Ham are in talks with Barcelona over the signing of former Arsenal midfielder Alex Song, according to Sky Sports.
Song is being chased by a number of European clubs including Napoli, Inter and AC Milan, but the player's preference is thought to be moving back to the Premier League. Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal and Manchester United have also been linked over the summer months, but the Hammers are now in pole position to bring the player back to London.
The Cameroon international does not feature in Barcelona coach Luis Enrique's plans this season and it's likely that he will leave before the end of the month. However, it is not yet known whether West Ham are chasing a permanent or loan move for the midfielder.
Song was the only player not to be used by Luis Enrique in a recent friendly, and he is set to have a difficult time breaking into the first team this year with the likes of Sergio Busquets, Ivan Rakitic, Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Sergi Roberto ahead of him in the pecking order.
