I have seen this swap deal mooted around the traps. What is everyones opinion??

Xabi - is a great player don't get me wrong, but do we let him go and get Heinze like Rafa wanted in the first place and see if they part with Baptista as well. We could then off load Voronin who is at best a squad player. The problem is what do you do at CB then. Do you move JC out to right back and play Heinze and Agger in the middle ?.

What are other peoples opinions ??

Nah not for these two, however I'd only be willing to take 30 million and Heinze, nothing below that.

That price would probably scare Madrid off, if so, so be it.

Suggesting moving Carra to RB is ridiculous. He is best at CB and has been immense in that role for the past 3-5 years. It's defo Carra + one at CB. If Heinze was to sign I think he'd either play at CB or LB. I think Rafa may see him as the left sided defender in a 3 man defense with Carra marking alongside Heinze and Agger sweeper.

Well Valencia want Riise and Aurellio is good enough to play starting LB imo, I wouldn't do a striaght swap for Heinze and Baptista put it that way, Heinze and Ramos yeah.

If we were thinking of swopping Alonso I would prefer if we did it for money and then maybe we could sign Mascherano. I think we can probably manage the rest of the season without signing a "big name" defender, and I would rather sign a creative striker such as Aguero (maybe swop for Xabi) than another "hard working"(?) but limited player like Baptista.

we should not sell our CLASS players.
If need be, no swap, get the £35mill he's worth.........

  unfortunately while we all rate Alonso very highly, his actual value on the transfer market would fall some way short of £20million nevermind £35million.

no thanks.

baptista aint good enough for us. he couldn't hit a cows ar$e with a banjo at arsenal so he's not good enough for us either.

what's his position anyway? is he a striker or is he a central midfielder? i don't really know.

heinze would be a decent acquisition though. i personally think that one will happen.

For what I've seen, this rumour hasn't been started in Spain, I can't find anything in the spanish press, even the most prone to rumours.

Probably the rumour was started in a journo office in London.

I think Liverpool have interesting players to get money from, like Sissoko. So I wouldn't think of Xabi if I needed money to sign up somewhere else.

Before Mascherano, when Alonso could not play (and Hamman was gone) there was nobody who could play the defensive role in the midfield. Yes Gerrard can do it but then he can't be Gerrard completely. If Xabi goes, with three important competitions, putting all the weight of the defensive midfielder role on Mascherano's shoulders would be a mistake IMHO.

What seems to be fuelling these rumours is that Alonso has become so low profile. After s strong start 2 seasons back he had an average season last year and of course has been injured a lot of late allowing Mascher, Gerrard, Babbel and even Kewell to get more press. He's a class player and I wouldnt like to see him go, he just needs game time and to get his confidence back. In contrast, someone like Crouch, Pennant etc.. aren't simply up to it. But they are english.
