Benni mccarthy - Wants cl football

Interesting one this - I think he's been excellent this season, and I think he'd make a cracking signing for up top. Maureen didn't want to know last summer, so I have a feeling Chelsea's not an option.

From BBC Sport

McCarthy ponders Blackburn future

Striker Benni McCarthy says he would consider leaving Blackburn for the chance to join a Champions League club.

The 29-year-old won the trophy in 2004 with Porto, who were managed by Jose Mourinho, and has hinted at a reunion with his former boss at Chelsea.

McCarthy told The Sun: "If a club like Chelsea comes looking for you, you must seriously consider the opportunity.

"A chance to go to Chelsea - or any other Champions League team in England or Spain - would be hard to turn down."

McCarthy joined Blackburn on a four-year contract from Porto last summer for £2.5m but with Rovers 10th in the Premiership there is no prospect of playing European football.

And the South African feels he has already repaid Blackburn for bringing him to the Premiership by scoring 23 goals this season.

"Blackburn gave me my chance and, even though it was not a big transfer fee, I trust that I have already paid them back with my commitment and goals," McCarthy said.

"But I miss Champions League football, it means everything for any player with ambitions.

"If I end up being sold by Blackburn and they make a good profit, fantastic."

Before moving to Ewood Park last summer, McCarthy had been linked with moves to Everton, Aston Villa, Middlesbrough and West Ham.

But the striker again hinted where his ambitions lie: "It would be a big challenge to win a regular start in a club like Chelsea.

"Mourinho has coached me. We won things together and he really knows me inside out.

"If he ever were to sign me again, it would be because he knows exactly what he's getting and that I've managed to settle down in England quite quickly."

Yeah that is an interesting one.

I've only seen him in glimpses at Blackburn, and he certainly looks useful. Infact I remember him having a good game against us at Anfiled earlier in the season.
23 goals in his first season in England, he definately has an eye for goal, well worth a look IMO especially if we swap him for Bellamy. :;):

I agree though with Dawson, it seems a bit mercinal in the way he has come out and "touted" himself a bit.

Mark Hughes will be livid with McCarthy for this.

However....he is a good players and a proven goalscorer. Perhaps a swap deal including Bellamy??

A good player with decent pedigree but he lacks the special quality we need at Liverpool in my opinion and he's 29, he'd be a good free transfer but he's still contracted to Blackburn and they'd want silly money anyway.

Cant say I would be interested in him. Another decent player but we need a bit more than that.

He looked pretty ordinary in Celta de Vigo, good enough for a mid team, not for LFC IMHO.

He is not better than Bellamy.

I didn't say he was better than Bellamy. He's a totally different player to Bellamy and much more of a penatly box striker (something I believe we need), He has cut it very quickly in the Prem league and I would welcome him at Anfield. Bellamy is on the way out so why not use him as a makeweight for the deal. Clearly money would need to be involved (Blackburn paying us) in the deal.

Or....they could throw in Morten Gamst Pederson into the deal! Now that would be nice  :upside:
