God save the Queen is about showing your patriotism.
If we ever do change, we should go for "Baggy Trousers" by Madness, or the theme to "Blackadder". :D

I'm a Jerusalem fan myself but thta'd just be for England really. Can't remember where I heard it but there's a tale about when John Aldridge played his first game for the Republic.... Being one of Big Jack's "imports" he was lining up for the anthems before kick off and when the first one came on he turned to Niall Quinn and said "bloody hell Ninefoot, this one's rubbish".... quick as a flash Quinn turns to him and says, "this one's ours"..... Quality! :rasp

Spain must have one of the most pathetic-ugly anthems over the world.

It used to have lyrics in Franco time, that spoke about being an empire again, and ridiculous stuff like that. Nowadays since democracy we don't have official lyrics, and that's why supporters chand it "lo, lo, lo , lo" which is Spanish for nah, nah, nah.

The tune is mlitary and ugly.

I like the british, the french, and German one.

The best one has to be "Oh, Canada".

Lovely tune, but the lyrics aren't exactly inventive:

"    O Canada!
    Our home and native land!
True patriot love in all thy sons command.

With glowing hearts we see thee rise,
The True North strong and free!

    From far and wide,
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

God keep our land glorious and free!
O Canada, we stand on guard for thee.

O Canada, we stand on guard for thee."

:D

I can remember growing up in the 60's having to sing that God awful British anthem, God Save the Queen. It sure as hell meant nothing to us little Aussie tackers & frankly, I think this is why I'm such a staunch Republican!!!

Australians all let us rejoice
For we are young and free
We've golden soil and wealth for toil,
Our home is girt by sea:
Our land abounds in nature's gifts
Of beauty rich and rare,
In history's page let every stage
Advance Australia fair,
In joyful strains then let us sing
Advance Australia fair.

I think most of the Commonwealth knows this song off by heart...they hear it often enough at the Commonwealth Games.
