Requiem for a Dream is certainly one of the most depressing movies I've ever seen along with Leaving Las Vegas

Leaving Las Vegas tells the story of Ben (Nicolas Cage), an unapologetic drunk, and Sera (Elisabeth Shue), a prostitute. After Ben loses his LA job, he takes his termination pay and heads to Vegas, that American mecca of glitz and greed where souls go to die. His intent is not to gamble, however, but to do something more certain: take a room in a flea-bag motel, buy as much booze as he can afford, and drink himself to death. By his estimation, that should take only a few weeks .

:(

Daws, I know Withnail has one of the most depressing ends ever but its still a hilarious film.

I had forgotten about Leaving Las Vegas, man thats sour.

Requiem wasn't a great film, it has some seriously depressing stuff going on, but Happiness is far, far worse.

withnail being hilarious throughout makes it even more depressing :(
First Policeman: [Having just pulled Withnail driving the beaten up Jaguar drunk & speeding] Bit early in the morning for festivities isn't it sir?
[He eyes the pile of empty bottles in the passenger seat]
Withnail: They're not mine, they belong to him
[He gestures vainly to the back seat]
First Policeman: [Wrinkling his nose as the smell of Withnail's breath hits him] You're drunk
Withnail: I assure you I'm not officer, I've only had a few ales
First Policeman: Out of the car please Sir.
[Withnail does not move, the Policeman opens the door abruptly & Withnail spills out then stands against the car, propping himself up - the Policeman offers him a breath test]
First Policeman: Would you fill this bag please sir?
[Withnail shakes his head]
First Policeman: Are you refusing to fill this bag?
Withnail: I most certainly am
First Policeman: I'm placing you under arrest.
Withnail: Don't be ridiculous I haven't done anything. Listen, my cousin's a QC
Policeman Two: [Who has been listening - screaming] GET IN THE BACK OF THE VAN!

ok. as i have said, the film is class, its brillaint, but the ending... its so depressing, such a downer.

thats why i put it there, because the ending is the worst ending in a film ever and it is very upsettnig cuckoos nest kinda way

I think American Beauty should go in there as well. No-one wants Kevin Spacey to die at the end of that film.

Nah, I remember watching that at the pictures.  I wanted to go into work the next day, tell my bosses to go and fuck themselves and start smoking weed.  I don't even smoke, that was a liberating film for me, Lester was the man.  He was bored of his existence and he chose to do something about it.

Fuck all the darker themes in the film, I didn't analyse it that much, I thought the creepy boy next door was annoying, for instance, but Lester made the film, and Spacey won an Oscar for it.

Didn't depress me in the slightest though.  ???

Titanic.

The fact that I spent 3 and a half hours of my life watching that little tw@t DiCaprio skip around a boat still depresses me
