I saw the Constant Gardener the other day.  That was depressing.  I won't spoil it, but the end just about sees off any glimmer of hope you had for the hero.

I think Green Mile and Philidelphia should also be considered... No. But them both together and they still have nothing on Bambi.

Angela's ashes was set in my home town. The book had a lot of funny moments to offset the depressing bits but the film was just gloomy.

Saddest end - Pretty Woman. I had just about saved up a few hundred dollars and Richard Gere took Julia Roberts off the streets so now I'll never get to **** her  :D

Withnail and I? Depressing? :D

One of the most depressing films I have ever seen is Happiness, starring Philip Seymour Hoffman amongst others. Obviously, the title is supposed to be ironic, and featured amongst its plotlines the story of a repressed middle classed white collar paedophile.

Sophie's Choice and Dead Man Walking for me.  Very depressing.  Also, Open Water was quite depressing I suppose.  No hope at all for that man and woman.

I've never seen Requiem For A Dream, I don't fancy it, I can't watch people taking heroin, and I love The Sopranos (Christopher is a user) and in one episode of The Shield, some guy had needles sticking out of the veins in his legs, absolutely disgusting.  I have to look away at the screen, heroin is without doubt the filthiest drug man ever invented.

From what I understand, Requiem For A Dream, although rated very highly by critics, just isn't ever going to be watched by me.
