Folllowing on from the current "Favourite Films" thread we have running ,lets try and sort out this forums favourites .I think we should do it by category .I'll start with war films ,someone else can do another category , crime ,comedy , horror , foreign etc etc .

don't forget to vote or else it's just a waste of time .

ps my own favourite is "Casualties of War " with Sean Penn and Michael J Fox , but thats only because I'm in it .  :nod    :D

saving private ryan has the most amazing open sequence of any war film ever - visceral. but out of that list i like 'cross of iron' and 'gallipoli', both hard as f*ck, 'gallipoli' just amzes you at the scale of waste of life. moving.

but an absolute classic you left off the list is 'all quiet on the western front'.

2nd place ,Captain Janders ,the wild geese , 242
3rd place , William Wallace ,braveheart  , 237

Major disappointment for me judge , got the dvd , it doesn't convey  even 2% of what went down in possibly the pivotal battle of ww2 .

:(

I'll vote for Full Metal Jacket, even though I don't consider it a "war film", more a military film that happens to be set during a war.  :)

Enemy at the Gates is a very good film with Jude Law, all about the Russians desperately trying to keep hold of Stalingrad

anyone else seen it?

PS Woof why isn't Where Eagles Dare on your list  :D

I voted for Black Hawk Down, for no other reason than it's the war film i watched most recently which actually shocked me in it's brutality

Cool poll and great movies woof!..I'm just considering to choose a film......... ???

Blackhawk down and SavingP.R. are really great, but vote for another movie, which makes me feel unusual whenever i watch. It's a Kubrick classic, "Full Metal Jacket"

"This is my rifle and this is my gun,
This is for fight and this is for fun..."

They showed a documentary on tv about the real events of "Blackhawk Down" It was bloo'dy amazing ,Out of respect for the people involved the  makers (of Blackhawk Down) didn't do another "hollywood war flic" 99% of the movie was spot on . Every death shown was actually how it happend all main characters were for real . With that in mind ,watch the movie again , it's even more amazing .
