My Mum absolutely adored Emlyn Hughes ....she used to say she only had to see that smile of his to feel better ,she said it would light up Anfield like a beacon .....The man to me epitomises the word Captain ,an absolutely  phenomenal player blessed with 100% commitment and overwhelming passion ..... for Stevie G to even reach 50% of what this man gave to this club is the biggest compliment I could give to our current Captain marvel ....CrazyHorse was that good   :D  LEGEND

We all loved Emlyn but it's Souness for me seperated by the width of a cigarette paper from Gerrard.

Gerrard - for leading the team to European Glory and FA Cup success, with players below the standards of previous successful captains.. Istanbul and Cardiff sheer examples of leadership, personal strength, effort and committment - which is why he deserves to be carried when he has his off time.

All captain's mentionhed up there have been great - would woalk through brick walls for Liverpool (the shankly test) - but no-one has captained under Gerrard's situation .. LEGEND already!

As a captain he is not our best. But as a player, he is the best.

He has got everything you could ever want in a player. On form, there is not one english player to come close to him with regards to talent in todays game. Lets look at the facts:

He can tackle.

He can pass.

He can score.

In that sense, he carries the spirit of Emlyn Hughes. On his day, he does everything to perfection.

He hasnt let success go to his head. He hasnt demanded attention nor has he demanded to be captain of the England team, even though he should be and we all know it, because when it comes to it, his performances speak volumes on the pitch when our current England team are loaded with ego's.

He is a humble, talented player. Imagine if he had the gob of Souness. He would be the England captain and without a doubt, our best captain ever.
