i voted the Alonso saga. Although id still like to hear Rafa's opinon on this now that he is gone.
I think he wanted to keep Alonso and sign Barry but we didn't have the money. The club seemed reluctant to pay for Barry yet funds were available for keane. Its a strange one...
And one that didn't work out well for Rafa, Alonso, Keane or Barry. i think Parry may have been behind it all.

Man Management without a doubt. And it was Man Management which probably instigated the sale of Alonso to RMadrid, with the Gareth Barry tapping situation.
The conflict with Reira. The mis-treatment of R Keane. Selling Peter Crouch for no good reason. Dropping Benayouin continually after scoring & playing well, which subsequently led to his wanting away. The look on Gerrards face when Torres was subbed late last season (Cant remember the game now). I wont include Bellamy, cos he is a law unto himself.
Other than that, he was great!!!

Alonso....buying one of the best passing players in the game and then forcing him out of the club so he could try and buy BARRY 
Then wasting 20 million on the Italian version of Darren Anderton. Oh yeah, and the whole Keane disaster

The question is worst mistake 'of' Rafa. Rafa didn't sell our club to yanks so your reply is irrelevant.
Anyways, I voted for 'Man Management' because imo he was never able to win player's heart due to his dictatorial style. I don't think players have ever played for him, not in last season anyway.
He also made other mistakes such as selling Alonso and failing to replace him, defensive tactics even when there was no need (Blackburn away last season for instance was a disgrace), too much rotation and wrong substitutions (Gerrard in derby, Torres against Birmingham).
So he made lot of mistakes but man management was his worst mistake imo.
