he does look like he has more potential than was being shown at West Ham! The problem is that he's only with us on an 18 month loan so what are they going to charge us to buy him?? I hope we got an agreement on a price when we took him on loan otherwise they may try it on and charge us Chelsea prices (nto that Rafa would pay this). Does anyone know if we agreed a fee following a successful loan?

As good as he is if they try and do us for 15m then i think i'd rather Alves (or some other winger) and a striker as these are needed more than a central midfield player where we're not bad off.

Is he still just on loan though? There have been rumblings that we've actually bought him (to get around this ruling about third parties not being allowed to hold player registrations)for either £1.5m or £10m depending on which source you believe.

Back on topic though and I'd be happy with just the two signings. A top quality striker and a Right winger and no prizes for guessing who they'd be either!

Cough,Cough, ETO'O, cough, Alves, Cough!!!  :D

I think if we bought Eto'o and Alves this would seriously stregthen our team and i honestly believe we would be properley in the running next year. however, if we were to do this and one got injured then we'd be backto square 1. So the question is- do we spend it all on a couple of BIG players or do we spread it around??

Personally i think we've been spreading it around for a few years and it's time we took the jump!!

Back to the Mascharano question- does anyone know if we've bought or loaned him?

I think he's loaned for 18months with an option to purchase for 15 or 18 mill. I may be wrong, let the flames begin.

Yeah i thought he was on an 18 month loan- but didn't know if there was an agreed price (i hope so as it's about to go up).

according to reports today we'll have £40 million to spend.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/liverpool/6520765.stm

if this is true, the money must go on 2-3 top class players in the £12-15m bracket.

We should donate it all to charity.

It's good for the soul.

To generate more revenue, we need to start merchandising, like Manchester United.

"LFC" is the brand name. Like "CK1"

Clothing, action figures, stationary, school stuff, accessories, cologne, etc....

Anything you can slap a logo on.

the merchandise is there. its available. but over here its uncontrolled, unlike Man U.

It seems to me the marketing strategy of Man U is better (if a little souless). They control all distribution of their merchandise through licensed dealers (i am pretty sure). They have also been targeting and promoting themselves in economies with growing premiership viewership as well as fast growing middle classes.

Man U are also extremely good at promoting & controlling their own content. Their TV and sms services, etc cost a lot for local content distributors & telcos.

We need to follow their example.

Yeah, it's souless, but fook it, if it gives us more money, do it.

Cisse was £14m, but that was a Houllier signing really.

Xabi cost £10.5m I think, slightly more than Kuyt.

Yeah neil, but when you say transfer budget, does that mean the total spent? or the net spent?

Becuase i believe (someone else can post the figures) that if you take away the money gained from the sales, the net spent is more like 20 million.
