3rd at worse.

Arsenal has played one game less but are still 11 points behind. Spurs are 9 points behind with one game less played. I can't see either of them catching us TBH, so it will be between ourselves and Man Utd for second spot.

Man Utd have to be favourites to get it considering they are 2 points ahead with two games in hand. However they still have to play Arsenal at Old Trafford, Bolton away, Spurs away and Chelsea away. 4 very tough games, all in which there is a good chance they'll drop points. In contrast, our toughest games are probably Newcastle away, Blackburn away and West Ham away (Pompey away could also be tough if they are still a chance of survival on the last day of the season).

Man Utd's run in:

West Brom (A) - 1 point.
Brum (H)  - 3 points
West Ham (H) - 3 points
Bolton (A) - 0 points
Arsenal (H) - 1 point
Sunderland (H) - 3 points
Spurs (A) - 1 point
Boro (H) - 3 points
Chelsea (A) - 0 points
Charlton (H) - 3 points

That's probably being quite optimistic, but that would give them 18 points from their last 10 games, giving them 78 pts in total. That would mean we need 21 points from our last 8 games - In effect that means we have to win 7 of our last 8 which I realistically can''t see us doing, considering 5 of our last 8 are away from home.

In Conclusion: We will finish 3rd.

Interesting fixtures for Spurs and Arsenal as well, who still - let's not forget - have to play each other. Could be the biggest North London derby in years, the way the race for 4th is shaping up.

I can see plenty of scope for both of them dropping points here. Unless we have a shocking run now, I think 3rd's safe.

Spurs

A Birmingham
H West Brom
A Newcastle
H Man City
A Everton
H Man Utd
A Arsenal
H Bolton
A West Ham

Arsenal

H Charlton
A Portsmouth
H Aston Villa
A Man Utd
H West Brom
A Man City
H Tottenham
A Sunderland
H Wigan

In theory then...

Us

A Newcastle United - 3 pts
H Everton - 3pts
A West Brom - 3pts
H Bolton Wanderers - 3pts
A Blackburn Rovers - 1pt
A West Ham United - 3pts
H Aston Villa - 3pts
A Portsmouth - 3pts

= 22pts + current 58 = 80pts

Man U

A West Brom - 1pt
H Birmingham - 3pts
H West Ham - 3pts
A Bolton - 0
H Arsenal - 1pt
H Sunderland - 3pts
A Tottenham - 1pt
H Middlesbrough - 3pts
A Chelsea - 0
H Charlton - 3pts

= 18pts + current 60 = 78

Liverpool 80
Man U 78
------------------------

Complete guesswork, obviously, but I do back Man U to lose at least 2 games in their run in. We just have to make sure that we keep grinding out results now, starting at Newcastle.

EDIT: Post altered to eradicate my bad maths.  :p

Your prediction fro Mnaure are the same as mine Ivor. That would be 78 and 80 though, not 68 and 70. Unfortunately as I said in my post above I cant see us winning 7 of our last 8.

I'm sure we will finish 3rd.

Heh heh. Maths isn't a strongpoint of mine. :D

If we were in pre-Christmas form right now, I wouldn't bet against us winning 7 out of 8. It's certainly possible, but if I'm honest I wouldn't be surprised if there were two or three draws in there.

tbh guys i cant see us winning 7 out of 8... but also i really cant see utd dropping 12 points. they're away form isnt that bad, yet there are no away wins at all. I hate manure as much as the next man but you've given them 5 wins out of 10.... i would give then 7 or 8 out of 10. i think they'll beat arsenal, west brom and spurs.... sorry to put a dampner on things but thats more realistic... :(  they are 2nd for a reason

I think we will get 3rd

Hi Gaditano.

I think that we've managed to be 3rd so far, playing the Champions League, the F.A Cup, playing the mickey mouse (because we lost it) cup at Japan, had to recover 2 games, in wednesday, we hadn't exactly the ideal ingredients to perform well and with regularity in the EPL. Yet, we've managed to get a decent 3rd.

That's why I think that our aim must be to be second, and that we'll achieve it.

:)

You are presuming too much boy.

you would think we should win most of those, and Man Utd are sure to drop points, despite two games in hand.

All depends which LFC turns up on the day.

Dont be surprised if we happen to lose.

The sooner Sissoko comes back the better.

All we have to do to make me happy, is finish above Man Utd.

then its been a good year.

Well obviously it's f*cking guesswork. I'm not claiming to have a crystal ball or anything.
