The problem with any player you take as a makewieght is whether or not you can make the guy REALLY want to come. It's not the same as you going to a club and enquiring about some player or other. When you say "give us 20 million plus that other bloke", how does the "other bloke" feel?. Well what if he doesn't really want to move? his kids are in a local school, his wife is well into the local amateur dramatics class while he's busy giving the next door neighbour a good seeing to?
Imagine how you'd feel. You go into work tomorrow to find out that some Nigel has been given your job but not to worry, you're being transfered to another office in Wolverhampton so get your gear ready mate. Big difference between that and "the Wolverhampton office have been on the on the old Percy Thrower and they say you are exactly what they are looking for. The CEO is bombing down the motorway right now 'cos he considers your transfer the most important piece of business he'll do this year". OK maybe you wouldn't want to go to Wolverhampton anyhow (it's probably not a good example as it's an absolute carsey) but you get my drift. Cash only, no makewieghts.

good point
a few years ago when real madrid were buying ronaldo from inter milan this happened...
Solari was suposed to go to inter but he refused and real had no choice but to add more money...

yeah thats what i was thinking really but if we were able to get duff from chelsea i wouldnt say no but i would prefer cold hard cash. All this talk about exchanging players for him doesnt seem the right thing to do we should just get the money, 40m + see whos the highest bidder and sell to them. i hope a bidding war starts now. With the first bid being over 30m already in the end it could be very high

If chelsea then i'd like Duff/Gallas or both.
Doubt it'll happen though
If Real then I'm not sure, Rafa rates Juanfran so I could maybe see that happening

I noticed you picked most of the over the hill or second rate players from these teams!
How about.....Ronaldo, as they've just bought Robinhio.
How about.....Makalele.
How about.....Zidane.
How about.....raul..
How about.....Duff
How about.....Cudicini.
This is more like it, not scott parker, who the hells he???
We dont want a Nunez type outcast either.

Cole is a good player, but is a bit like Baros and will play with his head down and run like a headless chicken. Moreen keeps dropping him from their 1st 11 because he will try and run the ball to the edge of the box and blast the ball into row x

I would rather Steven went to Real, so I would go for something like £30m and Walter Samuel.
With the £30m get Balack for in the region of £10m and Shaun Wright Philips for in the region of £20m.
I know its all a bit Championship Manager, but why not ?
