Steve Finnan is proving to be an excellent purchase by Gerard Houllier. His contribution to our attack is growing with every game.I made him man of the match today against Leicester for his non stop energy,up and down the pitch,in attack and defence.
keep it up SF and we'll all be happy :D

I agree. Give Houllier less money and he has to really find quality buys at good transfer prices rather than if he is given more money. Consider that Finnan actually cost less than Cheyrou or Biscan.

Chris Finnan will do a great job at Anfield and will become one of those players who continually turn in good performances without really getting the praise they deserve. He reminds me a bit of Chris Lawler who did a fantastic job throughout his career in some great Liverpool teams. I can't give him any better praise than that.

Sorry to pull you oldredeyes but u just lost another braincell,it's Steve Finnan not Chris, but I agree he could be the new Lawler.

Too many rattles banging against my head (remember the old wooden rattles - they were lethal ). Apologies to Steve I was obviously stuck with Chris Lawlers name when I was writing the post! He scored a lot of goals did old Chris for a full back.
A nice guy as well!

Yeah he is a nice guy...
I've always wondered why Dalglish sacked him as reserve team trainer when, apparently,he was doing so well.Sadly he never returned to Anfield, not even to watch I don't think.

I actually met him a few years ago at one of these sports presentation - dinner things and he loved talking about the old Liverpool teams and was obviously as mad about the 'reds' as we are. But I don't know the reasons behind his departure. Actuall SS you will probably help me on this one! Chris was with a few old players - one of them being Geoff Strong.
I had a discussion with one of my mates and I reckon old Strongy played in every position for Liverpool except in goal. What do you think?

Actually now that I think about it, I'm sure he did go in goal during one game before the days when substitute goalies were allowed. That would give him every position in the team!

Geoff Strong was an outstanding Shankly signing. He might not have been a sensational signing but he certainly proved to be an inspiration.Oldredeyes you are spot-on,he played in every position, keeper I don't know, although there was one shirt number he never got to wear and that was the no.7,because Cally wouldn't let anyone have it.
Where you at Anfield when Strong scored the winner against Celtic in the semi-final of the Cup Winners Cup in 1966?
