A very complcated story, as Alonso might still end up at Real.
Alonso and Owen seem tied together in more than one way.

In the beginning of this moths there were some roumors linking Joaquin to Liverpool. Anyone hear anything more about that? That`s the man to do the job on the right midfield..

Nunez is coming...?

Quote
"The deal is almost done," he said. "It is only a question of tying up a few details which should be no problem although Real will retain an option to buy me back in the future.

"I've always made a point of following the games in the English league because it is the sort of football that I like to play and now I'm going to be part of it. I hope to adjust to it as quickly as possible."

From LFC,tv Sunday

Benitez also had good news yesterday when Real Madrid said they would NOT move for Xabi Alonso, the midfielder he wants to buy.

Real Sociedad have turned down £12million so far but their hopes of an auction have now been hit as Real target Argentinian Javier Mascharenas.

Benitez's only problem will be finding the cash to buy both Mista and Alonso, but he is giving it a go.
:p

Throughout the day, the representative of Xabi has met Liverpool officials in England. Real Sociedad are studying the offer and during the week will come to a decision."

voices from yates, thanks for that post, to say this is an important buy for liverpool is a under statement, thats great news that madrid will not be moving for alonso, we must do everything to land this guy to help stevie in the middle, if we could get mista also the season would be verry promising.

We really need a competent RM and a quicker CM would be useful also.

how good is this Xabi Alonso? haven't seen much of him and I did not follow the Spanish team at the Euro. Here in Malaysia, the football pundits covering the regional show on the EPL said that Baraja is a more accomplished player than Alonso. There is so much bad blood between Liverpool and Valencia that any transfer dealings with Liverpool may not be forthcoming...

There may be a slight hitch with the Alonso deal. Real are targeting Argentinian Javier Mascharenas who is also a target of Arsenal.

Is this guy from River Plate?
