i read today in a malay newspaper that if the Thai deal comes of that owen and Gerrard will be offered 11% of the shares of the company set up in Thailand to manage the shares.

its not been decided if they will be given the shares or will have to buy them, however if they are given the shares its on the understanding that they stay with the club.

Good news?

Thais offer Owen and Gerrard shares
May 25 2004, Daily Post

THAILAND could offer two of Liverpool's star players a shareholding in the team if the country is successful in its bid to buy 30% of the club. Thai chief negotiator Pongsak Ruktapongpisal has told a Thailand radio station that Michael Owen and Steven Gerrard would be given a combined 11% control of a Thai company that would buy the Liverpool stake. The state-run Sports Authority of Thailand would hold 49% of the company and the rest would be offered to the Thai public under the plan.

It was not outlined whether the players would be given the shares or have to dip into their own pockets. Mr Pongsak, who is the country's deputy commerce minister, is currently in Liverpool in an attempt to finalise the floundering deal. The Thai Prime Minister, Thaksin Shinawatra, yesterday said the talks should be wrapped up tomorrow.

He said: "There will be a few days of negotiations after which we will know the result and the team will come back on Wednesday...whether we buy the stake or not."

Thaksin has announced a government plan to hold a public lottery to raise funds - despite being personally worth £1.4bn. Negotiations have stumbled with the Thais wanting two seats on the board but the club only offering one. The Daily Post yesterday revealed they are ready to talk to Everton FC if the Liverpool deal falls through.

Thaksin's spokesman has said: "The Prime Minister is aiming for Liverpool but has high regard for all Premiership teams. Ultimately, any team will be fine."

Not 11% of the club, but 11% of the 30% shares held by the Thais, so it works out to a net 3.3% in Liverpool between the 2 of them.

If Moores valued the 35,000 shares at 4,000 pounds each (based on the rejection of Morgan's bid), then he values Liverpool at 140 million pounds. The abovementioned 3.3% would be valued at 4.6 million pounds worth of shares Gerrard and Owen.

Thanks Carol Vorderman.

Carol Vorderman is not a bad looking and very clever woman. I wouldn't mind being with that kind of a dish who can do all of the complicated thinking for me...
