Former Liverpool, Tranmere and England winger Alan A'Court has died at the age of 75.

A'Court made 381 Liverpool appearances and scored 63 goals in an 11-year spell at Anfield after signing in 1952.

He had the distinction of scoring the Reds' first competitive goal under Bill Shankly, who began his tenure as Liverpool boss 50 years ago this week.

I never saw him play, but to play for England while Liverpool were in the second division means he must have been a very talented footballer.

RIP Alan  :(

Cracking player with a wicked shot - scored against the great Spurs double side when we beat them 5-2 at Anfield. As i remember we were 2-0 down a half time and came out like world beaters in the second half.
Wouldn't mind another like him now.

RIP Alan. He ran the Sports Centre at Staffs Polytechnic when I was there. A really nice fella.
From all accounts he could have left LFC when we got relegated but stuck with us, even went to the '58 world cup as a Second Division player. That sort of passion/loyalty has gone from the game now.
