I have faint memories of seeing Callaghan play because I was only 8 when I started to support Liverpool way back in 1976. Those days, Keegan, Toshack, Hughes and Clemence were the more famous names.
I chose Houghton because I feel that he embodys a combination of things - hard-working, intelligent, endless stamina, passing vision (I remember a few goals he created by good diagonal passing to Barnes,  Beardsley and Aldridge which helped beat the opposition offside trap), good temparament and heart which is somewhat lacking in our current midfield players. Gerrard has a big heart but he needs to curb his temper and could still improve his playing intelligence.
Well, that's a peice of my opinion.

Callaghan was a great player but in recent times Ray Houghtan was fantastic, and shouldn't have been sold to Villa when he was.
