Some of you lot out there might be able to help me here I hope. My pc won't show a lot of piccies eg avatars, pictures of fit birds, yetis etc you know, important stuff.........

All I've done is gone into Tools/Internet Options then "delete files" & "delete cookies" in the temporary internet files bit, to free up some space in the memory.

Have I knackered it up? If so does anybody know how to un-knacker it?

PS. It also doesn't like going into Hotmail's sign-in page, I have to press refresh to get it to try again

Any help much appreciated  :)

i'm a mac man and no PC expert woolly, but i reckon its coz you deleted all your cookies. they kinda store all the ways in which your PC deals with each of the sites it goes to.

not sure how you undo this on a PC.

so i've been a fat lot of help haven't i?

If he has deleted the cookies then that shouldn't affect the way he sees pics UNLESS the pictures , avtars etc....are taken from web sites which often use cookies to speed up your return by remembering your PC has accessed that site before .

Whwen you try and load a picture Al, what does the PC do ?

Hi Ian, cheers for the advice - it was much better than andy g's which was pure poo quite frankly  :D

When I go onto a page (on this forum for example) some of the piccies just go blank with the little "x" box the top left hand corner, but not all pics. Seems to be working a bit better now though. Think my pc was just having it's own best attempt at a tantrum   :Oo:

Maybe it got its act together when I used it to try and sell itself on ebay :D

What the PC will do automatically, is collect cookies from the sites you originally got the pictures from mate so if you can remember the sites it might be worth going on them ....your PC will record a cookie for pages you visit and then pictures SHOULD start to come back :)

Good Luck ...

P.S. If your seeling your PC on Ebay I suggest you get rid of all the PORN first !!! :D

Theres a lot more I could say Al but caution is required when using company Laptops , personal PC's etc....as in reality there is no absolute fail safe way* of removing the history of pages  ermmmmm "visited" when online  :D

* Well there is but you need to use particular programs that are available to buy .

Daglish is almost right.

Files deleted from Windows aren't really deleted at all: they still remain on your hard drive, its only the "address" of the file has been removed so Windows cannot find it.

Employeers and police can use software to drag up deleted files: I myself have seen this done many times.

The only way of deleting them for good is to get special software which will wipe the old files off the drive for good: this software essentially writes new info over the old info.

Try and find software like "Uneraser" (its free I think) and run it on your computer and I guarantee it'll dig up some embarassing stuff!!  :D

This means that the URL address for that particular picture is either not any longer in exsistance, or is only accesible via the IP address of the person who posted the picture on the web.

It will happen to everyone, and not just you.

You haven't knackered your PC up at all Wool.

I have my PC at a setting whereby every time I close a browser window down in Internet Explorer, it doesn't store the temporary files.

Go to:

Internet Explorer >>>>> Tools >>>>>>> Internet Options >>>>> Advanced >>>>>>>> Security >>>>>>>>

Then ckeck the box Empty Temporary files When browser is Closed

Cookies are a different thing.  Depends if you want them on your PC or not.  I'm not fussed personally but if you're looking at fluff, it's best to flush them away periodically.
