Anyone from US here?

A nation of 200 million people and they have to choose between Hilary Clinton and Donald Trump. They'd lost before a vote had been cast

It's amazing... just amazing... how a person like Donald Trump could be President of the United States. Brash, sexist, racist... and still become the leader of the 'free' world.

Clinton talked the talk and to a certain extent walked the walk. She won the debates, she won the polls. But too many of the populist don't seem to trust the political establishment anymore. The Clintons are seen as the political dynasties that the people are getting sick and tired of. She probably was more popular 8 years ago. Now she's got such baggage.

The US is supposed to be the leading democracy in the world but they are lagging far behind when it comes to having female premiers...

I was really surprised at the result. I thought she will win by a decent margin.
Well lets see now if the tall wall will be built and muslims stopped from US entry.

Being an American, it was fun watching the race last night. For once I didn't know who was going to win (I thought Clinton would), but it was a little bit exciting seeing Trump take states nobody thought he had a chance in. I usually vote Republican, but this year I wrote in a candidate because I couldn't get behind either one. I felt my vote needed to represent who I believed was a good fit to run our country, and I couldn't stand behind either one of them. I will say I truly believe Donald Trump is the lesser of two evils, but that wasn't enough to get my vote. I live in California which has gone Democrat for as long as I can remember, so being a Californian who usually votes republican is just a waste of time.

The reason I think Trump is the less of two evils? Basically the media. Being somebody who didn't like either candidate, I felt I was looking on with a neutral view point. The bias in the American media has always been very Liberal (favoring Democrats), but this year it disgusted me. Watching the media speak about how Trump is disgusting towards Woman, Minorities, and disabled people, and then turning around and pushing stories about the size of his hands, the unflattering statues of him that were popping up in big cities, his wife, etc, was very hypocritical. They refused to go after Hillary for the terrible things she's done. There's a history here with the Clinton family- openly stealing from the White House, being bedfellows with Wall Street/Corporations who they owe favors to, the Clinton Foundation that's used to embezzle money (how do lifetime politicians accumulate wealth over $150million?), and all of the people who have stepped forward to speak out against them, or who were going to that wound up mysteriously dead (A list of almost 100 people who were against them that magically had heart attacks or committed suicide). People here see this and they just don't trust her.

What it comes to is this. Trump says some really stupid, inappropriate, mean things. The media makes it sound way worse than it is, but he absolutely does and that's not ok. But the American people will take somebody who says terrible things than does terrible things. He can be an *****, but she is as corrupt as they come, and the American people are tired of the politics that have been quickly running the country into the ground and dividing the people who live here.

Don't care, never vote.

People like me are seen as lepers around here but I just refuse to help somebody get to power for their own personal benefit. Nobody wants to rule for the good of the people who helped him get there and I'll never be convinced otherwise. Homo homini lupus est.

Hillary Clinton won the popular vote (marginally) though... I am very ignorant in all this, just wondering, why can't the POTUS be decided on the popular votes alone? Isn't that more Democratic? Right now, as yo have mentioned, you feel like your vote doesn't matter in California, because the democratic candidate is gonna take it anyway. On the flip side, marginally losing at the swing states like Florida, hurts the candidate who loses alot due to the higher quantity of electoral votes assigned to that state.The concept of the electors can be used for representation in the Senate and House for a more balanced regional representation?

Its been a fantastic TV spectacle and ultimately Americans voted to break the machine, the establishment, that Clinton was very much part of. Perfectly happy to take the chance as most have nothing to lose.

There was a guy on this morning suggesting Kim Kardashian could run and win and honestly I wouldnt be that surprised now.

Being far left socialist myself I would like to think  we could destroy the UK machine but its a mighty beast finely tuned over centuries.

If you're a far left socialist, shouldn't you be supporting Hillary?  ... surely the republicans' capitalist/big business policies will all be against your core believes...

You're absolutely correct. I think most Americans feel that way, including myself. I think the only downside is that every vote would have to be counted, and that would take significantly longer. The real popular vote is also never counted because mail in votes (there's millions) are stopped being counted once the other candidate can no longer win the state. The state of Michigan still hasn't been called. That's how both sides want it tho. They both think having it this way favors them- It should favor Democrats based on statistically Democrat-owned states, but twice in the last 4 elections the Republicans have won while Democrats had the recorded popular vote.

People here are going crazy about how terrible this is and how it's not fair how we have a candidate nobody likes as President- but half the people who voted chose him. A lot of people aren't open about voting for him because the media has helped push the stigma that voting for him means you're racist.

I'm enjoying the hypocrisy of this quite a lot.

But it seems like

Trump is a c*nt and a conman.

I put him up there with the like's of the Italian dictator  Mussolini.

An absolute *****, and his election reveals what many already suspected about the popcorn eating gullible "majority" of the US population.

f*cking idiots with a severe case of ATHD (symptons include, , excessive talking , acting without thinking , having a short attention span and being easily distracted ) which probably explains why most American TV shows have an advert break every seven miniutes.

Donald Trump as the "so called leader of the free world "    Gimme a Fu*king break .

I see two aspects to his presidency:

1. Internationally; to ***** off the establishment. Either he pisses off China by getting close to the asian nations disputing the South China sea land grab China made or he pisses off Russia by humiliating them over Ukraine and Syria. Furthermore he'll embarrass China concerning the exchange manipulation, subsidies, human rights and spying on the US. Europe, he'll just laugh at us and tell us the EU's problems are for us to sort out. Brexit I think he'll respect and work with us - he likes the maverick side to this.

2. Domestically spend, spend, spend, creating manufacturing jobs, major infrastructure jobs and creating a feel good factor. He might get a second term if he's still alive by then, basis the jobs he creates.

Either way, the next president will have to rebalance the budget and make up with those nations he ***** off.

Remember: both China and Russia have very long term plans, Trump is a 2 year micro focus president, inevitably whatever radical things he does will lead to overall to a decrease in US influence. I'd say both China and Russia see that strategically the US has shot itself in the foot. Cancelling the TPP agreement would push the asian nations towards China - which was why TPP was created.

If he pisses off China and gets close to other asian nations, I'm all for it. China has been exploiting the other asian nations too much...
