i have a friend who is thinking of joining one of the big driving schools as an instructor.
basically you pay a fee up front and they put you through your instructor badge and you
get a franchise. does anyone know anyone that is an instructor for either RED, BSM or The AA?
friend has a few questions she would rather ask someone who actually does it than the company.

You'd have to look in the mirror and ask yourself some pretty honest questions like:
1. Can you put up working with complete idiots?
2. When someone makes the same mistake for the 30th time are you going to say 'Oh for f*cks sake, get out.'
3. Do you want to spend the next 20 years of you life sitting in a car with people who can't drive?

I'd rather be a plumber.

Don't know anyone actually in that game but remember seeing some tv program where a couple of lads put some of their redundancy pay into getting one of those "franchises" and they made fk all money out of it.

Obviously some make a success of it but your friend should deffo talk to current and maybe ex instructors before she commits any cash.

It was RED that she's had an offer from. Basically she gets a new car and regular clients etc but every week she has to pay RED about £200 then she keeps the rest. They sort the car out though, she just has the diesel to pay for. She just wondered how much work they actually put through

The lads in the tv programme I mentioned where with Red, they reckoned they never got enough clients put their way to make any real money but where still liable to make the payments to RED.  RED finally agreed to bin the contract but only because the tv show (think it was Don't get done get Dom) got involved.

Your friend needs to get some written guarantees on how many clients RED will provide her with each week/month so she can do the math on how much money she might make.

Had a mate who did this with the AA.

He too struggled to make money, but the AA still wanted their monthly fee and at times he was paying them to work  :no

Make sure your friend gets all the small print explained, and the driving school tell her how many people they will supply each week.

thanks lads, this is all helpful. I'm skeptical she'll actually make anything but I suppose it comes down to how much she is willing to put into it with regards marketing and self promotion. your input has been passed on!

Don't go near them

Friend started with them for a year and earned next to nothing ( Red )

Went out on her own with a bank loan and now earns themselves a good wage

I think the draw of them (red) supplying a new car and her not having to worry about the costs of the car etc is appealing to her. Me personally I agree with you benny, I wouldn't touch them

Surely I can't be the only one that has thought "I've seen porn flicks that started out with a driving instructor"  while reading this thread.

She may be in line to make a lot more money than she thinks.  :p
