the first man to set foot on the moon has dies aged 82.

i've read lots of books about the space race and the mercury and apollo projects. i've just started reading another called 'moondust' by andrew smith, which is ironically his journey to track down and interview the 9 surviving men who have walked on the moon. it makes you realise just how brave and crazy these guys were. and now there are only 8 left. in a few years time there will be nobody left alive who has set foot on the moon.

RIP neil.

p.s. all you doubters and conspiracy theorists can feck off about now.   :D

no worries, mate. looks like we were posting at about the same time actually. great minds think alike and all that...

apparently the 'one small step...' quote was something he came up with while in the lunar module before stepping out. he wasn't going to say anything at first (he was a pilot, not a poet or a philosopher), but he'd been getting bombarded with biblical or shakespearean suggestions by people. so he just decided to make something up himself.

the really crazy thing about the landing that armstrong made before he could even get out and say that line, was that it was a whisker away from disaster. there had been an unexpected alarm during descent and they'd been so distracted by fixing that, that by the time they refocussed on the landing they were only 1000 feet up and over totally unsuitable ground. they'd overshot the planned landing site by a distance. armstrong pretty much flew the thing down to the surface on manual and made it with only 10 seconds worth of fuel left.

The whole fake moon landings conspiracy theories crack me up. There are people who actually believe them despite all the third party evidence

Its incredible was it Neil or Buzz Aldrin that has the stalker who follows him around all the time yelling at him to admit the landing was faked

biggest bunch of cr@p if you ever heard one.

Some people can't admit to an achievement done by the pioneers of the 20th century
