How the other half live - C4 - watched it yet ?

I'm kinda torn between a couple of emotions watching this series on C4.
On the one hand I'm almost reduced to tears to see the poverty these kids (in particular) live in, and the happiness on their little faces when somebody does them a nice turn. Like last night's episode, where the eldest boy got his own "room" - essentially a pigeon hole divided off from another room, but the joy on his face at having his own space just melted my heart. That, and the happiness the kids obviously had at having something they might otherwise never experience - a couple of days in the sun splashing about in a pool.

On the other hand, I struggle to understand why these obviously generous benefactors are so 'public' about trying to help the lesser off. I mean, I think it's wonderful that they're willing to help others, but does it have to be televised, and dare I say, "commercialised" ? It's almost like there's an un-hidden agenda behind it. Personally I think if I was in a position to make such a difference, I wouldn't want a TV camera in my face while I'm doing it. The joy and appreciation is more than enough...

That said, it's uplifting to see the happiness it brings to the kids' faces.....A very humbling experience all in all....

the eldest kid got his own room? Just out of curiosity, how many kids were there?
You'd think if you ain't got the means, don't keep popping out the munchkins

OK, the "elder" of two....they lived in a box of a place, on a council estate in Brighton. Seemed like a lovely kid I have to say, very well mannered and polite...
