And what happens after a month when the person is just the same and then again two months later after another ban is still the same and then again 4 months later still no change - all the while during that time posters have got annoyed upset p.i.ssed off and it took a good 8 months to get rid of a bad apple where as in the current system he gets 5 chances - if he doesnt learn after 5 chances then he will never learn .

It's been said on this thread and others that the 5 card system isn't working. It's been argued that people race to 4 cards then get let off the 5th because they're considered valued members.

A 2 card system works fine. For example:

a yellow card stands for a week.
another yellow in that time gets a red and a week ban.

2 reds in month (or in 6 months if u wanna be harsh) and it's a permanent ban.

Obviously its up to the mods to suggest and decide the intricacies of it (or offer it up to vote) but repeat offenders wouldn't get let back time and time again.

I put this in a different topic but its obviously relevant in here also.

As regards to to peoples use of words and what is acceptable and what isn't, i think the rules should be re read over and updated where needed. At the moment the rules are bent all over the place by everyone and people don't pay them enough respect. Lets start a fresh and wipe everyone's cards.

ALL MEMBERS should be then given the chance to have a look over the new rules and digest. The mods should really highlight the fact that these are the new rules and that they are going to be strict with them.

Then after a week or two they kick in and its up to the Mods to enforce the strictness of them. Nobody can complain they weren't informed about them and everyone can start on a even keel and its up to them where they go from there. You break a rule you get a card, 5 cards and your out - simple. If the place was more strict then there wouldn't be as much drama.

I for one would not want to be banned from here and not be able to re register. At least this way everyone will be given the choice and if they get banned, can have no complaints

bigmick wrote:Abuse. As long as it's funny, it's OK. What's funny? Well I think the tester should be if the person who it is directed at finds it mildly amusing, it's OK. If though it's sustained c...ing somebody off, the likes of which we see too often on here, it isn't on.

Well, I'm going to no doubt sound like a bit of a wet blanket here (or a Mod that doesn't want to change the system) but I promise you that's not my motivation.  Rather, I think it's important to be realistic.  With that said, I see huge problems with this suggestion.  What's funny is obviously very subjective from poster to poster, especially when their own ego's involved.  We've all laughed at a particularly witty jibe directed at someone else that that person did not find amusing at all (and that we might not see the humour in either if it was directed our way).  So, I'm not sure a recipient's sense of humour about themselves is the best gauge for determining abuse, TBPH.  Furthermore, setting it up this way invites a layer of potential bureaucracy that I can't see working well because we now have to wait to see how the recipient takes it to decide if its true abuse or just 'funny.'  That then opens up a whole can of worms because it will inevitably lead to "so-so laughed when I called them that last week...why the feck can't you take a joke instead of running to the Mods etc."

Of course, the 'hard and fast' approach has its own problems.  Say we collectively produce a list of forbidden words that cannot be directed at others or cards will follow (c..t, pr..ck etc.).  Well, people will simply find ways to circumvent the list and get their point across in a similar but still technically clean way, much like Father Ted and Co managed with the wonderfully borderline use of 'feck'.  This means there will always need to be a certain degree of mod discretion that goes into deciding what counts as actionable abuse and that will perhaps bring us right back to square one, with charges of mod bias surfacing and sanctioned members getting up in arms for being pulled up for infraction X while someone else is seen to get away with worse.

Sorry to sound defeatist but I don't see how we easily resolve these issues.

Fair enough Bob and a good point. I haven't got the answer to that one, although I do think the "report this post to a moderator" button should be done away with as well. I've never reported a post to a mod in my life, and I don't see why anybody else should either.

What about doing it like the driving license points system?

Major offense like causing a riot, racism, c***ing at someone etc = 6 points
minor offenses like calling someone a girl, posting porn links etc = 3 points

13 points and your out - be it permenant or a months ban or whatever.

The offender should have their points displayed under their name so we can all watch them accumalate.

just a thought.

Oh deary me, not been on for a few days but there seems to be a lot of posts regarding how the forum is run, punishment, Mods setting examples or not, lets do this or try this, what about if we did this FFS !

The best way to deal with it is stay and put up with it or leave and join another site ( theres loads you know ) and stop killing time waiting for the season to start with mind numbingly boring threads regarding...........................................A FORUM ON THE F,CKIN INTERNET !!!!!!

Can I just add, after reading this zzzzzzzzz thread through from the begining, Lando that post was one of the funniest things I have ever read on here, not saying I agree with it but it was funny.

I think calling someone a c... and telling someone to f... off should be a card, and wishing that someone dies should be a ban, theres been to much of that this year.

oh and a ban on anyone that uses the word "soft lad"

Me too. I'll also be glad when the various transfer saga's are sorted out. Just to return briefly to question I was asked on a very similar thread to this one about wanting a particular person banned, it's not the case no. I've said all the way through the debate that it would be my wish that nobody is permanently banned as long as they are a Liverpool supporter. That said, various people have assured me that some of the crimes committed by some of the banees were fairly heinious and so I guess they can't have any complaints. They must have been pretty bad to even get banned in the first place based on recent goings on.

No, my mentioning the system was not about getting particular posters banned, it was the opposite in many respects. It's about fairness really, and having a system which is transparent and which treats everybody equally.

Not trying to open up the debate again as I suspect most people like me have had enough of it, just answering a question which was posed of me on antoher thread.

I have already said I don't want Lando, or him who shall remain nameless banned. All I want is for people to be able to post their opinions on football without being abused or abusive.

If people are unhappy about the forum then they should leave simple as that really.

Its getting boring loggin on every day reading the same boring repetitive garbage spouted every day about how the forum is being run, its a football forum first and foremost.
I log on to read about the team not about the Mods, and banned members.

See woof's sig for details.

Well leaving is an option Lynds, and all of us have from time to time taken some time off. Sometimes you need it.

In fairness though, this topic right at the start was simply an attempt to talk about the administration of the forum and whether it could be improved. It's something I've mentioned on and off for all the time I've been on here, and I was just curious what everyone else thought. Out of the original idea, all sorts of arguments sprouted up as offshoots which is a shame as the thing gets buried in arguments and posturing.

I say it's a shame, because I am absolutely convinced the forum would be better for everybody if it was slightly modified. That doesn't mean I want anybody banned, or that I think the mods do a sh!t job, not at all. Anyways, I'm fecked off to the back teeth with talking about it meself and others are obviously fecked off that I even dared to come up with the idea, so best we just leave things as they are :)
