World snooker championships - Bit late now

the snooker championships at the cruicble is in day 8 now, but i thought it deserved a mention before it got any later.

with higgins, murphy and selby all out already, it's looking taylormade for Ronnie O'Sullivan who's currently winning 5-3 against Mark Williams. Hendry is looking as good as I've seen him for a long time, he's just knocked out Ding Juhui. McGuire who's already won two ranking tournaments this season is leading Neil Robertson (austriallia) 8-0, so maybe McGuire is the best bet. But the young Chinese lad Liang Wenbo can certainly play, and is the real outside bet. Other players like Perry, Bingham, Swail (getting beat to Liang 3-1) are unlikely to win the tournament.

For me it's an O'Sullivan-McGuire final, with Ronnie winning it for his third world championship title.

well i agree Hendry is having an absolute blinder, and i think he could really upset the applecart this year. add to it liang who is beating swail 8-2 now i think? and ebdon who you can never count out and we got ourselves a proper tournament

Ronnie will turn it on in the latter stages.
He is winning Williams 9-5 while not playing his best, as long as he keeps this up his form will get better and better and no one will stop him.

Why do you think people who aren't fans can name about 10 players from the 1980s but only Ronnie o'sullivan of the last decade (and even he came around about a decade ago)?

We all loved Davis,Higgins,white,Taylor,Thorburn etc

niall, i'm sure those who mention the players from a while back could easily name a few from the modern era as well. i know i could name a lot of current players (more than i could from old because snooker is bigger and more televised nowadays) for example in this tournament there's a lot of good players who haven't made it to sheffield (that I know of anyway, certainly haven't been on the telly), Gerard Greene, Rory McLoud, Ian McCullouch, Dominic Dale all missed the boat to the cruicble. well known players who aren't making it to the biggest tournament and that's because the level of quality is so high, but also these players are so well known because of how popular the sport is nowadays. in years gone by, there wasn't as much coverage so people really only knew the bigger names.
