Glitter may face firing squad death
Disgraced Seventies rock star Gary Glitter could face death by firing squad after he was accused of having sex with a girl aged just 12, police said.

Sexual intercourse with a 12-year old regardless of whether there is consent is still considered rape under Vietnamese law, with a maximum penalty of death before a firing squad, according to the police.

The revelations come after two girls, aged 12 and 18 years old, told the police they had sex with the former singer - real name Paul Francis Gadd - at his rented home in the southern resort of Vung Tau in Vietnam.

There were conflicting reports that the second girl had not yet turned 18. Under Vietnamese law, sexual contact with a minor carries varying degrees of penalties, depending on the charge.

"Obscene acts with a child" can lead to up to 12 years in prison while child rape carries the maximum penalty of death before a firing squad.

"Having sex with a 12-year-old girl, regardless of whether he had her consent, is still considered child rape under Vietnamese law," a police officer said.

The 61-year-old former singer was arrested on Saturday at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City as he tried to flee the country. He left his rented home in Vung Tau a week ago amid allegations about his relationships with two teenage girls.

Glitter has been taken back to Vung Tau for further investigation by the police. He has not been charged with any crime but remains in custody at a jail outside the coastal city, police said.

Vung Tau police said they were continuing to investigate the case and will be questioning him further. The case has been highly publicised in the state-controlled media, which had reported that Glitter was seen in Vung Tau with several teenage girls, whom he invited to his home, since moving to the area in March.

Thanh Nien (Youth) newspaper reported today that the two girls were invited to Glitter's home, where he paid them for sex. The 12-year-old told police she had sex three times with Glitter, who paid her £5.50 each time, the paper said.

Yes, peewee is right. His analogy is true for the law in most Western Countries.

In my course of business I regularly meet 16 year old girls who have children with 17 year old guys. People generally say "They are young and innocent, its a terrible mess", the implication being that neither party is really to blame, it was two uninformed and reckless teenagers who made a mistake. Yet, you also get 16 year girls who have a kid with 24 or 25 year old guys, and the reaction you get is "Oh, he should be ashamed of himself, he should have known better", the implication being that there was a predatory nature in the man's actions.

When 60 year olds get 15 or 16 year olds pregnant the reaction is "Child abuser/rapist".

So, society sees it that if you are 17 you are dumb but its "not really your fault" as you are too young to be responsible or to know what you are doing.

If you are 24, you are a sleazebag who should know better and you have taken advantage of a teenager.

If you are 60 you are a child molester.

Yet in all three examples, in the eyes of the law in the UK (and Ireland and most of the Western world) all three men have committed the same crime, which is statutory rape. The law sees it one way, yet society sees it entirely differently.

In Ireland (and probably the UK) the difference comes down to how the police and the courts deal with it. 17 year olds are hardly ever charged with statutory rape, as generally the police turn a blind eye to these kind of things. Even if they were charged and convicted in court, the judge would lecture the defendant and give him community service and maybe a suspended sentence. These crimes are hardly ever reported to the police.

24 year olds will be charged if the police get wind of it, although many 24 year olds slip through the net, and the police would only really get involved if the 24 year old failed to pay maintenance etc. These crimes are sometimes, but not always, reported to the police, but generally only where the 24 year old is a scumbag and doesn't pay maintenance or support the kind.

If you are 60 years old you will be prosecuted byt he police and if convicted, will receive a very severe sentence. These cases are almost always reported to the police (although pre-1960s Ireland, countless men in this category got away with this as the family of the girl would have been too ashamed to bring the matter to the police's attention).

Would be great if  the sick Bast@rd got what he deserved and was shot dead!
If he was a vietnamese national i'd say that there would be no doubt he would face the death penalty!
But as he's from Britain its a dead cert that the P/C brigade, yes all those idiots that have nothing to do apart from interfere where thay are not concerened pull out all the stops to save his perverted life!
Foreign countries for some reason seem reluctant to apply the death penalty to nationals from countries that don't use capital punishment for some reason.I'd say its more likely he'll face life in jail!
As long as the Evil scum is not fit to walk the streets and prey on children thats fine by me!
Somehow i think a bullet in the head may not be so bad when faced with the reality of life in a primative jail! Id doubt its so cushy there as it is in British jails.
As for the fact that these two 12 yr old girls consented to sex,it makes no difference.Just because the poor girls have been violated and exploited from an early age into believing that this is their way of life does not make it right! If anything its worse that their innocence has been robbed so young!

Gary Glitter will always be a menace to kids ! Can anyone remember how he swaggered out of jail after doing time for having kid porn on his p/c with arrogance and no sense of remorse? Then had the cheek to give a live interveiw! Fuc.king disgusting it was!
Hope he rots in jail to he dies!

I think the idea of removing his testicles and all else connected with such feelings is the right one. Men like this have an ingrained belief that sex with 'babies and children' is fine, in fact it's what they're victims want.

It also has to be said,  and I am generalising here, thata in the the far east and other such regions where poverty and other related socio-economic situations exist, children are often easy prey for the depraved needs of such men. In fact such places are a haven for suce perverts. How can we expect a 12 year old child to be a consenting participant in such acts? 12 for gawds sake..

How many of you were not surprised that, that perve was out in Vietnam?

I think that hanging should be brought back for such heonous crimes:

Paedophila / child sexual abuse
killing a police person
muder

I'm sure there are others too, but these are the ones for me.
