You have to draw the line somewhere. If the EL winners qualified for the CL then winning the FA would indirectly give a club a route to CL qualification and I think that#s probably about right. Go one step further and award a place to the FA cup winner and you have to question the fairness of giving a side that wins 6 or so games of cup football a place ahead of a team that sustains their form over 38 games to finish fourth. It would make it more of a lottery and harder for clubs to plan for the future.

Ignore have to work all season long to get the reward and we just concentrate on 6 games instead of 38.

CL is the pinnacle of European Football and the right to play in that should be earnt through consistency throughout the season

No one wants to see Madrid or Barce hand out a double figure hammering to a championship side.

They want to see the best teams in Europe against each other. Not a team who won 6 games throughout the whole season

You seriously think it should be seen as better for the CHAMPIONS league to have someone who came 4th (woohoo, how Shankly would love to come 4th) than to go to the winners of the most well known cup in the history of club football?

Yes because coming 4th is done over the whole season - winning the FA Cup is over 6 games.

CL is the highest level of European football and you have to earn the right to play in it over the course of a whole season not 6 games.

BTW we won the CL after coming 4th in the leaue - bet Shankly wouldnt have given two shits about that fact

UEFA decided about the 4th CL spot not Sky.

Shal we put the CC winners in there as well - the Johnstone Paint trophy and kick out 2nd 3rd in the league.


Show some common sense ffs

European football needs a massive revamp.

The Champions League should only feature the top two clubs from each league and instead of having a group stage and knock out stages, just have knock out football from the off. The teams that finish 3rd and 4th should go into the UEFA cup, a knock out competition from round one.

Teams who win the FA Cup or UEFA Cup or the Carling cup should not be given entry into any European competition. That will make things far more interesting, because any manager who wins the Champions League is nowhere near as good as managers like Paisley, Stein, Clough, Barton etc.

However all competition we are in should be taken seriously and every effort should go into winning them irrespective of the financial revenue these competitions generate.

Lets just do the premiership, let sky show everything. We can have premiership Raw abnd Premiership Smackdown as thats mroe or less the way its going anyways.

All im saying is FA cup SHOULD be worth more than 4th. did people really like seeing clubs celebrate coming...4th! Box has it right, only top 2 should get it, but if it has to go to someone, give it to the fa cup, make that cup so important it is brought back to where it belongs. F*ck all this 4th place bollox, there is gold, silver, bronze, always has been. 4th is nothing.

Maybe, if you wanna do something, 1st and 2nd get CL. FA Cup gets CL, 3rd and 4th and 5th and 6th go into a CL playoff competition.

The honour of lifting these trophies should be more than enough of an incentive for footballers to strive to win these trophies and if they don't then that says more about them then it does about the trophies.

The way to make domestic cups and Europa league matter again ------> Win them.

Don't call them boring when we can't even win them.  Collect all 3 then say they're not relevant.
