Socrates- one of the greatest 'world stage' players of my youth has died at 57. A fabulous player in the classic Brazilian mould. However near all conversations about the guy all kinda got round to mentioning the snippet of trivia that he was a chain smoker.

sad news, but he had been ill for a long time and i think he had a problem with the drink for most of his life.

His full name was Socrates Brasileiro Sampaio de Sousa Vieira ...wow, what a name!
