City in line for Uefa bonus
FA handed extra spot in next season's Uefa Cup
Manchester City are in pole position to claim a place in next season's Uefa Cup after the Football Association was awarded an extra place in the competition.
European football's governing body revealed that English teams had topped their Fair Play competition, meaning an extra place in the first qualifying round of the 2008-09 Uefa Cup.
The FA has confirmed the berth will be awarded to the highest-ranked side in the Premier League fair play table that has not qualified for Europe by other means.
City currently stand fifth in the fair play table, behind Tottenham, Arsenal, Manchester United and Liverpool - who are all already guaranteed a place in continental competition.
That means Sven Goran Eriksson's team, with only a single league game at Middlesbrough remaining, stand on the brink of an unexpected European spot.

Im more worried about that kunt Blatter!
He said this week that he thinks teams should have to have a minimum of 5 or maybe it was 6 players from their own country in their team while playing in Europe!
Its just talk now but it could happen in the future if English teams dominate Europe.the comtinentals sure did not like 3 out of the 4 semi finalists being English and seem to think a foreign player limit may benefit them.
Sour Grapes,but what the poster above states will only add weight to their case!

I dont see that as a threat, even with a greater % of english players we will dominate. We have the best academies but more important we have the greatest will to win.
Lets do it, and rub Blatter´s nose in the dirt.

Fulham have confirmed they could be playing Uefa Cup football next season as reward for their success in the European Fair Play League.
England have already clinched another Uefa Cup place through this unlikely avenue, with the extra slot awarded to the 'fairest' team not already qualified for Europe.
Manchester City had been leading the way, but following Richard Dunne's dismissal in their 8-1 thrashing by Middlesbrough, Fulham may now have moved into pole position.
With other factors such as administration efficiency also coming into play, Fulham will have to wait to find out who has a place in the qualifying round for next season's Uefa Cup.
Possibility
"It is certainly a possibility that we could be playing in the Uefa Cup," explained the club's communications officer Sarah Brooks.
"It is a complicated situation in which administration efficiency is also taken into consideration as well as on-field behaviour but we know we are in a good position and expect to have confirmation from the Premier League early next week.
"For now, we have enough to celebrate over staying up but this could be another bonus, although we can't say more at this stage until all the documentation is in."
I believe the rule should be changed to the uefa cup place goin to fairplay but a team in the top 10.
Fulham have only just stayed up and could you imagine if it was derby had won the fairplay.

You have to stay up to get the place, so Derby wouldn't have got it. If Fulham had gone down, neither would they.
At the end of the day, it's a fair play award. What does your position in the league have to do with it?

I think these stupid "Fair Play" things should be scrapped.
First and second into the Champions League
Group stages, then knockout.
Third and fourth and possibly FA Cup and Milk Cup winner (if applicable) into the UEFA Cup.
Straight knockout.
Intertoto scrapped. Fair Play UEFA Cup spot scrapped.

Strongly agree with the bits in bold, but I do like the fair play place. It's strangely out of place in the modern game, but it's a nice reminder of footballs early days.
Don't know where to stand on the Inter-toto though, because it does give the clubs who aren't quite good enough to qualify through league placings a helping hand, and a chance to test themselves.

Firstly Dante Why on earth have you got a picture of danny webber can't think of a worse player
And honestly league position should have something to do with it because what is the point in fulham entering it. They struggle in the premiership as it is and they don't have the resources to be able to compete in all the domestic cups, the league and the uefa on top.
But thanks for clearing up that if you go down you can't win it.

See, I don't think fair play should get you a UEFA Cup spot, because you could play fair but finish 20th.
Overall, you haven't been good enough to get the European spot.
If you have played fair, then well done, you won't lose players to suspensions and will have a better chance of a higher league position.
If they want to clean up the game, diving (which is obvious since divers tend to roll around comically whereas real injured players tend to lay very still and hold the body part which is hurt) should be a yellow card.
Any player who argues that another player should be booked gets a yellow card.
Once a ref makes a decision, ONLY the captains of the two teams can talk to him. If anyone else tries to talk to him, or if other players surround him, that's a booking.
If the ref is booking or sending someone off, only the player being booked/sent off and the team captains can talk to the ref. If anyone else gets involved, that's a booking.
Stampings, raising the hands violently, spitting at other players, bad language towards other players or the ref, touching the ref, two-footed tackles etc....are an automatic red.
That will soon set players straight.

Can't remember where I posted it, but our national team always has been 'gash'. It hasn't suddenly become a case of we have lots of foreigners and our national team is no longer the best, it never was the best. We won ONE World Cup half a century ago and had infrequent ventures to the semis of competitions. That is still the case. We didn't qualify for the 94 World Cup or the 2008 European Championship, but we didn't qualify for the 74 or 78 World Cups either - or the 1984 European Championship. And when we did qualify for the Euros in 1988 and 1992 we were pants, were we blaming foreigners for it back then too?
Maybe they should award UEFA spots to the team who has the most appearances by the league nations countrymen ie team with most appearances by Englishmen for the Premiership. But 1/3 of Premiership players are English, most of those are ordinary and if there were lots better then they'd make it anyway so what people go on about is nonsense anyway. We just don't have the talent or had the coaches to make it work. And it's not like the players we have are completely useless, they do mostly play for the top four clubs

Erm, it's a running joke from another board.
Everyone got sick of constant Torres threads, so we started up one about Danny Webber, and went into the Torres ones claiming Danny was better.
The reason I'm for Fulham qualifying is that a UEFA Cup place will help them attract people they might not otherwise. Not the top players in Europe, but players that might otherwise go to the likes of Blackburn. They've got a great manager there (should have got the England job) and I think they will be a totally different side next year. And if they can strengthen, it means a more competitive league, which can only be good right?
On cleaning up the game though, Manhattan makes some pretty good points, all of which the FIFA should look at.
A final note, Swindon Town remain the team with the best disciplinary record in any Premier League season, and that was in a 42 match season. They also conceded 100 goals, and won just 5 times. Blame Chelsea for nicking Glenn Hoddle before the season began.
