Platini's plan failed.

Although now, third place in the Prem means group stage qualification:

interesting to see the g14 clubs, including us, are celebrating like mad.
that decision was about keeping all the big money for the big clubs not the good of the game as a whole.
although we are part of it i dont think the g14 should have been allowed to form, a select group of powerful clubs shouldnt be able to hold the game to ransom.
i think a cl place should have went to the f.a cup winners, then it would have been like the 70`s again with everyone trying like fook to win the cup.
football has got to be careful here, if it gets too uncompetative fans soon get bored.

The FA cup clearly isn't what it was 20 years ago but time moves on. If West ham had won that shootout they'd be in CL under those proposals - nuts.

I'd like to see some of the CL money allocated to the other clubs in the league as I agree that knowing who the top 4 will be every season takes away from the game, very few upsets too.

I remember when top teams were very happy to get an away point against mid table teams.

I'd love to see the world club competition really given a go. Think how great the world cup is.

I was soooo gutted when we lost the final a few years ago. biggest disappointment in many years for lfc. "champions of the world" would be some title.

It was doomed to failure from the start. Have a look back at the most recent FA Cup Winners:

2006-2007 Chelsea 1 Manchester United 0

2005-06 Liverpool 3-3 West Ham United (after extra time, Liverpool won 3:1 on penalties)

2004-05 Arsenal 0-0 Manchester United (after extra time, Arsenal won 5:4 on penalties)

2003-04 Manchester United 3-0 Millwall

2002-03 Arsenal 1-0 Southampton

2001-02 Arsenal 2-0 Chelsea

2000-01 Liverpool 2-1 Arsenal

1999-2000 Chelsea 1-0 Aston Villa

1998-99 Manchester United 2-0 Newcastle United

1997-98 Arsenal 2-0 Newcastle United

1996-97 Chelsea 2-0 Middlesbrough

So no difference there then. ???

The only problem now is that there will be an extra qualifying tie for the team finishing third against even weaker sides, which I suppose will be in place of a couple of friendlies.

some poor runners up there though - would you want them representing english football in CL?
