I'd have to disagree, the FA Cup doesn't catch peoples imagination anymore because the financial reward is insignificant compared to the prize for qualifying for the CL or indeed even premiership survival.

Millwall only got to the final because they avoided premiership teams in the draw all the way. The final was rubbish as Manure out classed them.

As Manure finished in top 3, then that would mean that Millwall would get a place in CL even though they probably weren't good enough to beat any premiership team.

Terrible idea - the FA cup isn't a charity case.

To me that's all part of the magic of the cup, anything can happen, including getting lucky with an easy run to the final.

Football is far too predictable these days, gone are the days when Watford could finish second in the league out of the blue. For me anything that brings back a bit of excitement & unpredictability is a good thing.

Not too fond of this idea personally. You can go through the FA Cup without beating one single great team (if you're lucky), and that would not merit a CL place in my eyes, compared to ending up 4th in a more and more tough PL over 38 games. I can see the point about making the tournament more valuable again, but I disagree with doing it this way. Anyway the FA Cup still seems pretty valuable to the big teams in my eyes, as I believe the "big four" have won it almost every time during the last 20 years or so (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong, as I can't be bothered looking up the statistics myself :;):  )

I like the idea, personally.  It restores the prestige of the cup and ensures that more teams will take it a lot more seriously.  As the Big 4 have won it so often, anyway, we shouldn't worry that some League 2 team is going to be in the Champions League.  Plus, if I read things right, the top three finishers in the league will automatically qualify for the group stages of the CL.  I know we aspire to higher than third in the league but, should we end up there again, at least we wouldn't have to play the likes of Toulouse to get into the tournament proper.

I think Platini goal is plain to see. He wants to strengthen the french league and weaken the English League. He has been trying for a while now. Firstly he tried to reduce qualifying teams from England to 3 and now he is trying to make it so that a weaker english team could possibly make it to the CL. In FIFA and UEFA there seems to be some anti English sentiment for whatever reason. I think they just don't like the power that English football has. Fortunatley i don't think Platini can have any say in how England chooses its CL qualifiers. I think his plan is to try and get Mid tabled teams on his side and cause a division in English football.

ive got a better idea, how about give a champions league place to the Uefa cup winners. It would add some meaning to what has become a second rate european tournament in the past few years, and teams would take it seriously, plus it would still make the FA Cup a potential route to the champions league, it will just be harder.

Im not really a fan, well diserved if they won it, but if they didnt face a good team and got lucky in the final, would you really want them in the chapions league? (think of Everton getting lucky in the final against a top team) Should they really represent it? I like it they way it is myself, however, havnt the cup winner winning it would not be bad AS LONG as if the winner of the cup is in the chapions league, that the 4th place gets it rather than the runner up

Does this apply to all FA cups across Europe?

So the winner of the Swedish FA Cup would get a CL berth?

It's bullplop!

Manhattan doesn't mind ONLY the English FA Cup winner getting a qualifiying round place in the CL because it's the oldest cup competition and is way more important than other national cups.

Oh yeah, and replace the Super Cup with the Cup Winners Cup!.

A CL place shouldn't be wasted on the FA cup winners (WEst ham came to a penalty shoot out of winning FFS)

Pathetic.

If the FA cup isn't able to have the glamour any more then so be it.

Thats absolute rubbish. why should 4th place in a league be deemed worthy of the champions league?

Plus, say we play watford in the fa cup final, win that and finish top 3 in the league, all that would happen is that the last place in the CL would go to 4th in the league, not to the fa cup runners up.

Making it top 3 in the league will keep us on our toes, and bring back some proper fa cup matches. football cant just be about the teams with all the money, needs some magic brought back to it.

Sadly it seems that the only competition people really care about now is the Champions league, so I, in my infinite wisdom, have decided that UEFA Cup should be scrapped in favour of 1 European competition every year (Which shall once more be known as the European Cup)., set out as follows:

From the start of July the minnow teams will play a series of knockout rounds similar to the current format. After whittling the numbers down to the set amount the teams that would have previously entered the Uefa Cup come in and take on these teams. The following round sees the entrance of the 3rd and 4th placed teams, Then onto the big leagues:

From the end of Sept have a 16 group Champions League, with the same format. Entering the Top 2 teams from the Seeded Leagues AND the Cup winners, the top 2 qualify,  then restart a knockout with 32 teams come mid-February

This way everybody's happy, More teams qualify, more matches means more money and the domestic cup competitions are deemed valuable again with such a lucrative reward for winning them

Please let the insults begin.......

If west ham had won that shootout they'd be so happy to win the FA cup (happier than LFC I believe as they don't win much).

They wouldn't need a CL place to feel good.

They wouldn't be as good as 4th placed team in league though who would likely do better in CL.
