I hope I'm just old and cynical but these south american's take their football pretty seriously. Remember the Columbian(?) defender who got shot after their exit a few years back?

Yeh i know, they are very passionate, but the airport incident was staged. It was mostly hired goons who were there, I guess it worked though.

You're probably right Babu, if Australia got a result there could defo be trouble. But Uruguay will win so no need to worry   :D

You seem very keen for those Uros to win LFC #1, even for a kiwi.
Im wondering whether your actually Kevin Sheedy or some other insecure Aussie rules guys who gets very worried and jealous every four years  :D

hialrious stuff up by the U's - they requested that aus play the first leg at montevideo one day earlier to give them more recovery time after flying to sydney for the return leg 4 days later.
aus refused, fair enough so in retaliation they pushed their home game from 5pm kick-off to 9pm so that aus miss their commercial flight back to syney that evening and the next flight is the next day, meaning they lose valuable recovery time in sydney. U's were chartering their own plane and are leaving straight after the game.

so aus were forced to charter their own plane. now the U's charter plane has fallen through and they want to bring the game back to 5pm so they can catch the "former" commercial flgith - aus are saying No. love this little games before the real thing.

C'mmmmon Australia.

That's quite funny.. but

..it's a :censored: cheek.. next time around the 'Aussies' have fixed it so they don't play against the South Americans to qualify.. they'll be in the Asian coutry block trying for easy qualification..  :veryangry

I hope the Uruguayans thrash the hell out of them   :nod

I can cope with a slim loss but would prefer if we scored an away goal. Anything greater than 2-0 down and we could be history.

C'mon Aussie, C'mon, C'mon!!!!

:D

one nil defeat away in Uruguay is a cracking result for Australia, certainly my favourites now with the home leg to come.

Australia were excellent in the first half hour and probably deserved to go in lvel at HT. Uruguay dominated most of the 2nd half though, and it could've easilt turned into 2 or 3 nil.

Overall though a pretty good result and performance by Australia, really sets the tie up for the return leg in Sydney.

How about those Wallabies though? 7 losses in a row now, while the All Blacks keep on getting better beating Ireland 45-7. :D

I am sorry to hear you say that Zarababe

Qualify as oceania champions, were promised a spot only to be taken away again. why should aus have to play a south american team to qualify?

The aussies have fixed it? i am sorry that you are so ignorant.  Joining the AFC is seen as fixing it... omg.

Yeah im happy enough but also would have preferred a 2-1 loss to a 1 nil loss
Good effort for guys and hopefully history can repeat itself as 4 years ago with home side taking a 1-0 lead for second leg and going down 3-0 in 2nd leg

Playing and trying to qualify in the Asian zone is going to be anything but easy sunshine.

What it does do though is to eliminate the easy matches of the Oceania zone before coming up against quality opposition from Sth America/Asia/Europe (we even played Scotland one year). We've played them all because FIFA does not see Oceania as deserving of a single spot in the W.C. finals and as we don't have the influence or impact of the Sth Americans (they winge louder and longer) we are forced into a play off for the final spot.

FIFA would be better off now disolving Oceania completely, because there is no real quality left now (sorry to all the Kiwis out there)

and just to upset you even further zarababe Australia didn't get thrashed...anything but. Bring on Sydney, I think we are going to get there.    :bowdown
